My mind was buzzing.
Moments before, I had been fighting a headache and felt exhausted, but the news of Axureon's return had awakened me.
I knew he would come through.
The door swung open. I let out a breath I didn't realize I was holding as Axureon stepped into the room. As always, his ancient dragon aura could be felt almost instantaneously, and it brought me a sense of comfort.
That was until I saw his face.
His expression was grave, and his eyes were filled with a deep sadness. I felt my mood instantly darken. I was still glad to see the man, but it was clear it had not gone well at all with the dark lord of his past.
"Axureon," Rhys greeted from beside me. "Please, have a seat. You must be exhausted after your travels."
Axureon looked like he didn't want to sit, but he still took Rhys' offer, coming to sit close to me. I gave him a weak smile in greeting, which he hesitated to return.
