I had resented Kryzen for making us stop to take a break, but I was shocked to discover that I really needed it.
I thought that I was fine. I always thought I was fine when I actually wasn’t.
I blushed when I realized that Kryzen seemed to have no trouble reading me. I thought about what my mother used to say about mate bonds, how they allowed you to understand your partner in deeper ways than one could ever think possible.
“It’s getting a lot colder,” Kryzen murmured to me. He dropped to his knees and pulled out the jackets we had packed for precisely that reason. Without a word, he wrapped one around my shoulders, buttoning it efficiently.
I was grateful since I wasn’t sure if my frozen fingers would have been able to handle the buttons.
I watched my mate as he slipped his arms into the sleeves of his jacket, his strong, sure hands making quick work of the buttons once again. He raised an eyebrow when he caught me staring. “What is it?” he asked, sounding amused.
