My heart felt like it had stopped when my eyes landed on Tian. He was pretty far away from us, on the other side of the large building we were peering into, but he was still a terrifying sight.
It was easy to tell that the temple had been abandoned at one point. This whole city seemed to be abandoned. It made me wonder what had happened to all of the city’s occupants. Had Tian done away with them to build his shadow army?
“Briella,” Kryzen hissed, squeezing my hand so hard that I idly wondered if it would bruise later. His shocked sound made my blood freeze. I followed his gaze, tearing my eyes from Tian so I could look at the crowd of people in front of the tyrant.
I nearly choked on my gasp.
The people were all dressed in dark robes. I didn’t recognize any of them, making me wonder where they had come from. They had pasty gray skin, and their hair was in complete disarray. Many of them had matted hair, the strands wild around their heads.
