My arms tightened slightly around Emberly but not hard enough to rouse her from her little nap. She was the only one who could calm me even slightly at that moment. I pressed my nose lightly against her silky smooth forehead, breathing in her sweet scent and allowing it to lull my senses slightly.
I couldn’t believe that this gorgeous child came from me. Emberly was perfect with Kryzen’s deep, endless gray eyes. She looked mostly like Kryzen, which I was grateful for. She had his slightly lopsided smile as well. She was so young but already laughing and smiling so much. The pealing bell sound always caused my heart to flutter happily.
She was developing quickly. At just a few months old, she wasn’t just smiling. She was also starting to play and explore the world around her. I wandered over to the bed I shared with Kryzen and sat on the edge of it, reaching for a puzzle toy meant for babies months older than Emberly was now.
