Sydney Sawyer already felt light-headed, her body weightless. She barely registered being lifted into someone's arms.
She only felt herself leaning against something cool. Her head instinctively burrowed into his chest, seeking a bit of coolness, but her little face, already hot and flushed, was pressed against him.
As she nuzzled against him, the breath escaping her nose was erratic and scorching...
It seemed to melt through his clothes and sear his skin.
"Stay still." He kept his voice low, looking down at the woman in his arms.
As a doctor, he knew all too well how agonizing a high fever could be. There was no room for any other thoughts.
"Ngh..." Sydney Sawyer's body ached all over, and she let out a couple of discontented murmurs.
The living room wasn't far from the bedroom. Sebastian Lockwood had been here many times, but this was his first time entering her bedroom. He wasn't in the mood to look around. After placing her on the bed, he turned to find Chester Sawyer.
