The news hit Sydney Sawyer like a bolt from the blue, leaving her utterly reeling.
For a moment, she even thought she wasn't fully awake and was just hearing things.
"Mom? What did you say?"
"I'm already at the airport and heading to your university. It'll probably take about another 40 minutes."
"Are you kidding me?"
"What? You don't want me to come?" Jane Spencer laughed. "You've been complaining to me about how much stuff you have in your dorm, so I came to help you pack."

Sydney Sawyer's head began to throb. 'How can everything be happening all at once?'
"Oh, right, are your roommates there? Get them all together and tell them I'm treating them to a meal out. I'll take you all somewhere nice."
Since her mother had gone that far, it clearly wasn't a joke.
After hanging up, Sydney Sawyer leaped frantically from her bed, looking nothing like someone who had just pulled an all-nighter.
