Tears began sliding down Mira's face, but she didn't make a sound. Just sat there, the truth settling over her like a weight.
"The eighteen of you that we recovered today, you're safe now. You're going to be transferred to Araxis authorities who will help you get home if that's what you want, or help you find legitimate opportunities if you can't or don't want to return. But I need you to understand that what was going to happen to you wasn't what they promised. It was abandonment at best, and possibly worse."
