Chapter 79 - The Right Alpha

AUTHOR'S POV

"Do you think Diana is still… alive?", Priscilla stood and sauntered before Roman as she look into his eyes. "I heard you imprinted on her too", she held Roman's hand with the most sincerest eyes.

"I did…", he smiled a little at the genuineness of this woman's care for his Luna. "…but let this be known that once I find her, I will claim my Luna and have our clan protect her the best way we can", Roman said, as he clasp on Priscilla's hand then let go.

A cold rush brushed her skin as Priscilla tighten her lips into a fine line. She knew exactly what Roman is referring to. The subtle glint in his eyes never softened despite his face was calm. "My husband didn't mean what he said. He's just upset from everything that's happening", her lips trembled, fearing the wrath of an Alpha when it comes to his Luna.

Roman didn't answered. He just patted her shoulder and left. Priscilla watched the door closed, realizing that something more is brewing against their clan. The Alpha of the Black Creek Clan didn't just came to console her, or not even feel for her dying son. He simply came to warn them all, leaving a threat for their attempts to kill his Luna. It was a clear act of his generosity for his only and final admonition when it comes to Diana.

Roman scanned the hallway on which one he should pay a visit next. As he chooses a door to open, he heard a voice of a woman shouting beyond the closed door. Overhearing their conversation, the lady seemed to be very upset.

"How could you be so sure when you can't even remember what happened to you? So how in the world did the Devlin's patented poison got into you? How can someone dare use our own weapons against us and against an Alpha?", Reina shouted, as she pack all of her medical supplies in a brown leather suitcase.

Sitting on the bed with his legs straightened, he grunted at his slowly healing wound after being injected with the antidote for the poisoned dagger that he gave to Diana. "The night was blurry, anyone will attack without hesitations with a lycan at large".

Before Reina could reply, Scott whiffed a scent of an undesirable guest. "Reina, leave us", Scott ordered. Reina took a while to read the room. As she catch a trace of Roman's scent, she dashed to the door and went out, giving a cold stare at Roman.

"You look like you'll live", Roman greeted, as he look overScott's awfully painful wound on his flank which have started to close. As he went in, Roman take a quick glance at the entire room. Scott's maple room is bigger than Sebastian's. The gray fur carpets, brown velvet loveseat, and short beige curtains matched the rustic interior. The light is dim and the room opposed the relatively stuffy air from Sebastian's room. It's the only part of the house where there's few greenery thriving in vigor.

"A long and happy life, I suppose", Scott groaned as he sat with his feet on the floor. He knew that one day, he'd meet Roman face to face again concerning the Luna. Though it took Roman early to find out about the imprint, meeting him is something that Scott needs to do eventually. "I don't think you're here to check on me", he said, closing the buttons of his white shirt.

Roman continued to look around until he reached the window. He glanced outside and saw the moon still hanging up in the morning sky. "I am as confused as the moon during the day.. Honestly, to speak with you is not certainly on my list", Roman said as he leaned against the window.

"Did you find her?", Scott asked.

"I wouldn't be here if I did", Roman bitterly said as he sat down on the loveseat. The dissension between the two Alphas filled the atmosphere conflicted by a common Luna.

"I know you imprinted on her too.. I was told she's a unique one, I never expected it would have to come to this", Scott said impassively.

"I presume you know I won't let her go", Roman replied. "You see, Mr. Devlin. I am a very selfish man. I don't share and I claim what's mine", Roman crossed his legs as he lean back.

"I think you're wasting your time here, Roman", Scott scoffed at his arrogance. "Diana have already chosen her Alpha", Scott added as he stood with less difficulty than he have tried earlier on.

"I didn't know you can be so funny. How can you be her Alpha when you can't even protect her?", Roman grinned. "How dare you call yourself an Alpha when you let your entire clan face a horrific carnage as the town turn to a bloodshed..", Roman replied as he leaned forward. "The question is.. where were you? ", he whispered. Scott tightened his jaw at Roman's words. Roman is blatantly disdainful to demean Scott's character on a perfect opportunity where in fact, he can vaguely call to mind all puzzling details related last night. He froze from where he is standing while Roman attack him with his offensive wordplay. "What? Can't catch your tongue?", Roman smirked seeing Scott's face turn white. "Did you know how the lycan's blazing eyes stared at Diana like it will ravage her whole? How it distinctly chased my Luna for her sweet blood? And, how it viciously attacked everyone who came on its way just to reach her?", Roman glared at Scott as he stood up. "How about this... Do you know how tightly she embraced me for being scared? How she gripped your brother's hand so she won't be alone? And how she desperately ran away when she could even hardly walk with her wounded leg?", Roman walked towards Scott as they meet each other's gaze obtrusively. "You were never there, Scott", Roman squinted his eyes as he gritted his teeth. "And for all the proper reasons, I am the right Alpha for Diana. This place isn't safe for her anymore. Your clan is on a headhunt for my Luna. I'll take her as soon as I find her".

Scott exhaled sharply, meeting Roman's burning gaze. "Right.. I'm a flawed head of the clan, and I'm bound to make more mistakes. I blame no one but myself for the deaths of my people, for risking the life of my Luna after bringing her here, and worse, for not being there to secure them from danger. But that doesn't mean I should easily falter and wimp out. I am lucky to have a pack who assured Diana's safety in my absence, and a clan strong enough not to lose hope without my presence. Diana is my Luna, it's her decision if she still wants me or not...", clenching his hand into a fist.

"I think I have the slightest idea where were you last night." Roman placed Scott's gunmetal lighter on the table near the bed. "I know it's you. I can smell the beast in you. I'll just have to see it myself on the next full moon.", he said, leaving Scott staring at the lighter. Before closing the door, he turned back and said, "I'll make sure she chooses me".

As to when Roman's about to descend the stairs, he sensed a putrid stench coming from Sebastian's room. He opened the door and saw a big black bird just flew out of the window. Checking on Sebastian who's sleeping alone in the room with the sheet of cloth that was covering his body now on the floor revealing his leg, Roman noticed that his leg wound have already been healed, no wounds and no scars. He rushed to the window, and saw the bird flying out into the wilderness. Turning his head to the door, he found Scott with his eyes widened. Without further reasons, Roman jolted towards Scott, grabbing the collar of his shirt, gnashing his teeth. "What the hell is your family doing with a nagua?!", he furiously asked.
