The Great Cosmic Continent of Sagittarius no longer looked like a place that belonged to the living.
From afar, it was wrapped in a vast, shifting veil of gray-black mist. It didn't behave like ordinary fog. It pulsed, as if breathing, and twisted, as if aware.
Every now and then, faint shapes pressed against it from within, like something trying to claw its way out or something dragging prey deeper inside.
By now, everyone in the Legendary Plains knew one truth. Once you crossed that veil, you didn't come back, because the terrifying entity that seemed to rule over death within the continent wouldn't let you.
Yet despite that knowledge, the empty void around the Sagittarius Continent was anything but deserted, at least not today, for it was crowded with thousands upon thousands of colossal spacecraft that hovered in orbit, forming a suffocating blockade around the veiled continent.
