Technically it had been a successful incursion. They obtained all the fuel they wanted, and everyone survived… some in better condition than others. But Clair, after that day, was never the same again. It was clear in her empty eyes. The innocence she once held, along with the naive stupidity that had defined her, had all faded away. In their place remained only a dark mixture of hatred, sorrow, and disbelief.
I continued experiencing the long series of memories and scenes, learning more about what had truly happened in Lolth's distant past.
Once they returned to Gabriel's laboratory, he congratulated everyone present and even organized a party to celebrate their "victory." Yet she remained alone in a quiet corner, silently watching the city night through a window while drinking wine by herself.
I could tell that Clair was half-expecting Gabriel to eventually come over to her, to explain everything that had happened, or at least to offer some kind of apology… but…
