As Iris spent more time among humans, her animosity towards them deepened. Their perceived weakness and arrogance, especially their disdain for mages, fueled her growing resentment. Even Amelia and Chrysanthe, though they shared her feelings, kept their thoughts to themselves as they eavesdropped on the market-goers during their early breakfast.
"The demons have yet to kill the dark queen. They must be busy protecting their own lands rather than fulfilling the promise they made with us, humans," One man grumbled, his meal forgotten in his frustration.
"What do you expect?" Another man huffed. "They would rather save themselves than spare resources to save us."
"Even mages are leaving towns to hide from us. As humans, shouldn't they be the first ones to defend us?" another chimed in.
