The days following that freak horde were a bit heavier than normal, what with the populace being rather worried as they constantly stole glances at the walls wondering if another gigantic batch of monsters were going to come around and kill even more of their friends.
To a population that was around 300 or so strong, losing two dozen people in one day was definitely noticeable, and it was a very clear reminder that this city was being built on a 'frontier' with little direct support around us, so everything was... touch and go.
Because of this we put great emphasis in revamping the defenses of the city as soon as we possibly could, and the taller towers that were being erected every so often overlooked large swathes of the plains around us, providing ample protection.
