"So higher dimensions are conceived of as a way to satisfy the rule that probabilities need to add up to one," Rui muttered in thought. "And only by increasing the number of spatial dimensions to eleven or twenty-six or whatever satisfies this condition when using a string model of realities."
That was a fascinating reason to conclude that the universe had twenty-six dimensions. Though Rui could understand why a lot of people didn't believe this. A purely mathematical rationale for a radically different cosmology was not the most convincing. Without empirical proof confirming the existence of such higher dimensions, even he wouldn't believe it.
However, he had witnessed higher dimensions and had even leveraged them, albeit very crudely.
"That's right," the professor replied patiently. "Higher dimensions are a prediction born from mathematical necessity and the necessity to satisfy the law that probabilities need to add up to a unity."
