Chapter 29 - Chapter 29: Why Am I So Confused?

"Don't listen to your Uncle Sun. He's someone who's concerned with appearances. I'm telling you, Lin Yi, in life, we must be grateful and repay kindness. Your Uncle Sun is helping you, so you must remember..."

Honestly, I can't figure out how Liu Mei's mind works. No matter how much Sun Zhi glares at her or yells at her time and again, she still doesn't get it and continues to act all superior in front of Lin Yi.

Of course, if it weren't for yesterday's events, even though Lin Yi is capable, he's still just a junior. Liu Mei saying a few words to him wouldn't have been a big deal.

But now it's different. Yesterday, Lin Yi put Sun Zhi in his place, and now every word Liu Mei says is like rubbing salt in Sun Zhi's wounds.

Finally, unable to bear it any longer, Sun Zhi exploded, giving Liu Mei a shove, nearly knocking her off her feet:

"Are you ever going to stop? If you don't talk, no one will mistake you for a mute! All day long, you just know how to show off and mind other people's business. Why don't you worry about yourself!"

Pushed like this by Sun Zhi, Liu Mei also got worked up and started shoving and hitting her husband.

Seeing this scene, Lin Yi simply shouldered the sack of rice and headed towards the building's entrance, unwilling to waste time watching their circus.

"Hey, hey, Xiao Yi, give it to me, give it to me, I'll do it myself..."

Seeing this, Sun Zhi quickly tried to stop him, but before he could finish, his wife had already charged over, pulling and tearing at him.

By this time, Lin Yi had entered the building, climbed up to the second floor, placed the sack of rice at Sun Zhi's door, and then went straight to his own home.

Downstairs, Liu Mei seemed genuinely infuriated by her husband. As she cried and yelled, she continued to shove and pull at him, attracting a crowd of onlookers, even some heads poking out from the upstairs windows.

"Sun Zhi, you heartless man, what did I do? I just asked the Lin Family boy to help carry a sack of rice. The boy didn't say anything, but you dare to hit me..."

As the crowd grew, even though Liu Mei wasn't well-liked, some neighbors came over to mediate, but she remained relentless.

Finally, Sun Zhi, who had been enduring it with a dark face, suddenly shoved Liu Mei away with force and shouted:

"Enough! If I ignore you, you just keep going, don't you! You with your pretty face and empty head, if you're not ashamed, I am! So let me tell you why I yelled at you!

About me helping Xiao Yi—does he need my help? Did you see that big Range Rover? That's Xiao Yi's!

And let me tell you! That car isn't some cheap Divine Walker your boss drives. Xiao Yi's is a top-end Range Rover, and it costs at least four million!

It's one thing to ask him for help since he's a junior, but you've mocked and belittled him repeatedly. Do you even know your own limits?"

With these words, Liu Mei, who had been crying, suddenly froze, staring dumbfounded at the brand-new silver Range Rover, speechless.

Not just her, the surrounding neighbors were also stunned by Sun Zhi's words.

Looking at the Range Rover, everyone was astounded—so it's the Lin Family boy's car?

Isn't the boy still in high school? How can he possibly afford a super luxury car worth four million??

Four million—what does that even mean? Maybe for the rich, it's not much, but in this old neighborhood, four million is a huge amount!

For a moment, people's minds went wild with speculation. Could it be that Lao Lin is involved in something shady at work?

However, the next moment, Liu Mei voiced the question on everyone's mind:

"This, how is this possible! How could he have so much money!! Could the car be borrowed, or rented?? It must be, it surely can't be something he bought!"

Hearing this, Sun Zhi slammed the trunk of the old A6 shut and snorted disdainfully:

"Borrowed? Rented? Let me tell you why he's so rich. Lin Yi sold an artifact in our antique shop yesterday, a Yuan Dynasty blue-and-white porcelain piece, worth five million! Borrowed? Rented? He doesn't need to! Now stop making a fool of yourself and get home!"

Although Sun Zhi didn't want to boast about Lin Yi, given the situation, if he didn't make things clear, who knows what other hurtful things his foolish wife might say.

Since seeing that Lin Yi drove a Range Rover, Sun Zhi had an idea—to ask Lin Yi to speak with Boss Zhuang for him. Perhaps he could get his job back.

After all, part of the reason Boss Zhuang fired him was because of Lin Yi.

But if he let his wife run her mouth and seriously offend Lin Yi, he wouldn't be able to ask Lin Yi for help.

Hearing Sun Zhi's explanation, the neighbors started to nod in realization.

Everyone knew Lao Lin loved antiques, but no one expected his son to be capable of scoring a Yuan Dynasty blue-and-white!

The neighbors were filled with envy, thinking they'd have to go rummaging around their old homes to see if they could find any antiques of their own. Maybe they too could trade them in for a four-million-plus Range Rover!

The chatter among the neighbors brought Liu Mei back to her senses. As she looked deeply at the silver Range Rover, her mouth couldn't help but taste bitterness.

In her heart, she felt resentment—why do such good things always happen to the Lin Family!

But despite her inner turmoil, she didn't dare to argue with her husband anymore.

Seeing her husband head upstairs, she quickly lowered her head and followed him up.

Once Sun Zhi and his wife left, the surrounding neighbors didn't disperse. Instead, the middle-aged women and older folks began chatting together.

Every now and then, they'd glance at the Range Rover, with expressions that couldn't hide their envy.

Just a moment later, loud crying and yelling came from a second-floor window.

Looking up towards the window, it was clearly coming from Sun Zhi and Liu Mei's home, and one could vaguely hear the words 'lost job.'

Everyone shook their heads. Liu Mei had always been too arrogant. Now that she's been put in her place by the Lin boy, she should settle down, shouldn't she?

Around 6:30 in the evening, Father Lin opened the door and walked in, looking at his wife who was already back and cooking in the kitchen. He asked in a slightly puzzled tone:

"Xiao Er, it's strange. Just now downstairs, why were the neighbors all congratulating me? I'm completely confused. Is there something good happening in our family that you're all keeping from me?"
