Charlotte Allison wasn't particularly interested in gossip about Paula's transformation and their personal vendetta, but that didn't mean others weren't.
As soon as Caroline heard about it, she called Paula.
Paula was still driving, and the phone was on speaker in the center console.

Paula became one of Caroline's subordinates three years ago, after splitting with Clarence. Caroline, who took Paula in, was privy to the absolute inside story and knew that Paula had been wanting Clarence's life for years. So regarding Paula's decision, Caroline was curious but also contemplating.
Paula was a major player under Caroline. She didn't want any outside factors to influence Paula's choice to leave the organization.
"He promised to give me his life after this cooperation ends." Paula wasn't one to overthink things and explained plainly.
