How could she possibly fall asleep? She was practically holding her breath, ears strained to listen.
She was paying attention to the sound of the bathroom door, her heart pounding, hard to calm down.
About fifteen minutes later, the man finished his shower and came out. He glanced at the large bed, saw the woman covering herself with a blanket, and slowly walked to the bedside.
Crossley heard the footsteps, her whole body tensed, growing more nervous.
"Don't sleep with the blanket over your head, it's a bad habit," the man said in a deep voice, then grabbed the blanket and pulled it off her head.
Crossley turned her back to him, kept her eyes closed, and didn't move, until the man walked to the sofa.
A moment later, there was no movement in the room. Crossley opened her eyes, lifted her upper body to look at the sofa. The man seemed to be asleep, no sound at all.
Crossley's body gradually relaxed. She lay back down, eyes staring at the ceiling, and remained so for a long time…
