Walter Schmidt gently patted her shoulder, a trace of compassion in his eyes, "Enough, let's not talk about this matter anymore, okay?"
"Okay… not talking about it, never again…" Fiona Schmidt raised her head, stood on her tiptoes, and kissed the man's cheek playfully, saying with a smile, "Goodnight, most handsome brother!"
Walter Schmidt chuckled lightly, lifted his chin to signal her to go rest. Fiona turned around and walked away, closing the door behind her with a wave and a "Goodnight."
The man watched the closed door, lips curling up, yet he sighed softly.
After standing for a while, he turned to leave, only to see a slender figure at the corner of the staircase. The woman was leaning against the railing, her swollen belly prominently visible. Even with her face obscured by the wall, she was instantly recognizable.
"How long have you been standing here?" Walter Schmidt grinned and quickly approached, wrapping her up in his arms.
