Chapter 35 - Clean Up Duty Always Sucks

The Bifrost hummed loudly, the many gears and bearings rotating at deafening speeds as Bor stood at the gate. Then with a loud thwip of the ending of the magic sequence Odin appears. His body bloody and skin torn open in thin claw like gnashes he stumbled forth, the only armor remaining was a dented, scratched up chest plate.

And Bor simply watched, looked at his son and contemplated. Of his three sons, Odin was the strongest, Divinities of War and Destruction demanded he was and he was glad of it. Glad all of his sons were capable of great things wielding great strength all three of them. But he was the opposite of who Bor was, where Bor sought peace and Unity Odin charged forth with armies and force, even among his siblings he was the most predisposed for violence, and it made him worry. His time on this plane was running thinner with each passing day and none of them were displaying the qualities he needed, the Asgardians needed, for a King, none of them.

"So, my son, you have lost." He said calmly, just the two of them at the Bifrost his voice was calming, but not to Odin.

"Why have you done that! I have not lost until I am dead, and I was still drawing breath even down there!" His pride was simply too much. Bor couldn't help but let out a silent sigh.

"Quickly cast down the Bifrost and retrieve my army! Why are you just standing there Father?!" He continues to yell, his voice loud and angry, his defeat stinging him but the next words Bor speaks hurt him much more.

"Your army no longer exists son! You have started a fight you couldn't win and caused the deaths of all your men! You call yourself a leader yet lead them to annihilation! So, Cease!" For the first time in centuries, he has raised his voice his power subconsciously shaking the Bifrost as it echos off the walls. Odin is left speechless, his mind spinning and steaming. Unsure what to do now as his conscience begins to claw at him.

Looking at the wounds on his son he calms himself and begins to move forward. "Come, you need to heal before you do anything of import." He then turns and leaves walking down the rainbow bridge back to the palace.

"Y-yes Father..."

...

With my outburst done I rapidly calmed down, the flames of my skull dying down as I returned to my normal form. All around me was nothingness, well rock but nothing else, it was a green, lush mountain before Odin arrived. Asshole.

My siblings approach all of them only a little worse for wear, the spell I had cast had released all of the damned souls in hell and by release I mean release. They were free from my control so in the midst of me attacking Odin they had attacked the others as well. Thankfully the fight didn't last long.

"Are you guys alright?" I say looking them up and down, mostly Poseidon as he had his chest caved in from a rune amplified dropkick.

"We are fine brother, where are Zeus and Hestia, and how have the soldiers fared?" He says. The magic Odin hit Zeus with was stronger than what he used on Poseidon and Ares so Hestia was tending to him the entire fight.

Summoning a portal to where I felt Hestia we all walk through it coming out the other end back in the plains.

The plain was a bloody, blackened explanse filled with corpses and metal. It was surreal, seeing so many bodies, so many dead people brutalized with bronze and Asgardian steel. Already the mortals were gently picking up the dead and moving them into rows. Zeus and Hestia were looking over them from the hill we started on back near the tents. All of the others move to him while I stay and look for Angela.

I see her in the midst of the clean up crew, her armor shed and back to her Greek garb, her hands were bloody as she stemmed the wound of an injured man golden light softly glowing from her clasped hands.

"Angela. How many escaped?" I say walking up to her my giant form sticking out among the crowd many of them looking at me forgetting about the bodies on the ground for a moment.

"Get back to work!" She says fiercely, then turns her head to me, still healing the man and speaks nicely. "None, my lord. After our pincer attack they didn't last long, though they fought beastly toward the end, some of my own men struck down." She says her voice hinting at a little sorrow, she trained along each of her soldiers, I've witnessed it myself so I'm sure she knew at least most of them.

I simply pat her shoulder at that, there's nothing I can really do, I cant bring back every one that dies otherwise no one would move on always asking for what had been before. "They're at peace now, Angela, be sure of that."

Turning away I go to the other Gods wanting to talk about what we do next.

"One God and we almost lost this is unacceptable! We must strike before they can gather strength!" Ares exclaims clenching his fist as if crushing something.

"How would we even get there you meathead? We don't have that teleportation thing they do." Hermes chimes, knowing the most of traveling long distances.

"So what? We just move on, keep nurturing the Mortals like normal?" Hera says, not really wanting to do that. She always had distain for the mortals, never really doing anything for them like Athena, Demeter, Poseidon or Zeus did. But I couldn't really blame her, her husband loves them a little too much.

Seeing me approach Zeus speaks up, "Brother, how did you fare?" His brows bent a little probably hoping I did as bad as he did.

"He was strong brother, but not strong enough, not yet at least. The magic they use is different from ours, ours is natural, theirs is learned it's only a matter of time." Crossing my arms I look at them.

"We have no way of getting to Asgard, we don't even know where it is, plus our armies are too weak to launch an assault. So I think we ought to lay low, continue training the mortals but otherwise let them live, Odin shouldn't come back anytime soon."

"Fine by me." Hephaestus stoically says.

"Alright." Apollo and Artemis respond. The others say similar responses.

"Angela will deal with the other mortals, I will take the Necromechs back to the Underworld, Hephaestus I'll call on you soon."
