Chapter 109 - The Fall

Pov 3rd person

Unfortunately, they ran out of time for thinking. Police sirens were no longer just a distant echo signaling trouble. No, now they were already echoing on the scene, shattering the solemn silence following the disaster that had just occurred. Along with them came the blue-red and regular bright lights, which already illuminated the darkness around the sinkhole.

Thanks to the now open view that Kurumi and Neo had, thanks to the destruction of the building, they were able to witness the scene. Both saw how many vehicles of various sizes had already been deployed around the sinkhole, blocking every street and alley within their field of sight. Thanks to all the new lighting on the stage, they could see many human like silhouettes walking around the cars, then pairing up and spreading out around the area.

Due to the combination of distance, flashing lights, and the still-dark surroundings, it was difficult to tell exactly how these figures looked up close. However, for obvious reasons, Kurumi and Neo assumed that they were police officers and probably other emergency services .

Some of the silhouettes had gone so far away that they were no longer visible from the girls' point of view . Some even got into their cars and drove off to an unknown destination. The majority, however, with flashlights in their hands, they began to circle around the sinkhole, shining their flashlights and looking around with great care.

Those people were checking the situation. Something that was obvious but at that moment, Kurumi's and Neo's hearts stopped . Thanks to everything they just saw , they were already certain of an impending crisis . At that moment, the silhouettes began looking inside the sinkhole, shining their flashlights at the darker spots , searching for something.

From that moment on, it was only a matter of time before Kurumi and Neo were found. Due to their position, they stood out like black dots in a sea of white. It was pure luck that they weren't found immediately. However, eventually someone will notice the only building hanging over the edge of the sinkhole , and then it would be over .

If, for some reason, they were immediately attacked after being spotted, they would not even have the opportunity to protect themselves. They would have been like targets at a shooting range, and the only thing that could have saved them would have been improvisation, which would probably have ended in a fall into the large reservoir.

And that would probably have ended in death or, in the best case scenario, in serious injury.Of course, Kurumi had one more trick up her sleeve, but she wasn't sure if whether any of them will work or if it would simply kill them. So, it can be said that it is highly probable that if they were attacked at this moment, there would be nothing they could do .

However, it is more likely that the authorities would rescue them from their situation and then detain them. But while it would have gotten them out of that dangerous position, it wasn't the best solution. Although they would have survived, they would still have gotten into serious trouble. And that's because of the questions that would obviously been asked.

For example, what were kids like them doing at that time of night in such a place? And other questions of this kind. Which would ultimately end up with the need to summon their "parents" for questioning, which they could not do without the presence of their guardians. This would obviously cause more problems. Especially if some smart cop started snooping around and figured out who Neo really was. Both of them doubted that would happen. Still, the problem would remain.

To get out of this, they would have to enlist the help of their friends, which would not be easy given the scale of the case. Besides, their faces would already be known to the police. And that would make their private lives difficult. Not to mention that the police might realize that they have unlocked aura. Then the bullshit would really begin.

Another option would be to accept help in getting out of the situation and then try to escape before they catch them. And Kurumi really thought about it for a moment, but looking at Neo's condition.

Kurumi pov

' But , Neo is barely holding on. '

I thought, looking at her pale face and trembling hands.

'Neo won't be able to escape if they really want to catch her. Maybe I could cover her with my clones, but I'm not sure if there are any hunters nearby or if they'll show up when the commotion begins . '

'They always go in teams of four. So I'm not sure I can hold off all four of them, plus the entire police force, before they catch Neo. And that's assuming we're only talking about one team. Well, I could use Zafkiel to speed up and break through, but there are too many variables.'

I pondered, feeling increasingly stressed as more and more lights shone in our direction. At that moment, however, Neo patted me on the calf. I looked down at her, at her reassuring smile .

Kurumi: "Neo... No . You are overdoing it. "

I said in a worried whisper, looking at her pale face. At the same time, I ignored the lights that were shining directly on us . Those lights no longer mattered. They were no longer a threat because now they simply ignored us.

And that , thanks to Neo, who again used her Illusions . However, fatigue must have hit her quite hard when she almost collapsed and fell. Forcing me to create a few more hands out of shadow , to hold her body in a more comfortable and safe position to give her a rest . Looking at her condition, I didn't know how much was left in her.

Looking at me, Neo raised her hand, showing three fingers. It was a signal that she could hold out for about three minutes, but what then? Most likely, she would faint from exhaustion. At least I wanted to believe that. I didn't want to think about the possible consequences of squeezing out the aura like that.

Instead, I preferred to think about how to get us out of here in three minutes. However, looking at Neo's condition, I was really ready to give up and let others save us. I'd much rather face the trouble of our capture than let Neo get hurt any more.

' I just hope , she wouldn't be so stupid as to risk her life. Right? What am I saying? This crazy girl is just like me... She'd rather die than let me die... '

I thought, feeling warm.

' It's nice to have someone you'd ride or die with. Well, until you begin to worry about them more than your own life. '

I thought, feeling a rush of motivation as I looked at her. Neo, on the other hand, despite her fatigue and weakness, looked under my dress without the slightest restraint. She even narrowed her mismatched eyes as she looked . And as if that weren't enough, Neo ignoring the situation and me , lifted the hem of my dress for a better view, hiding her face in the process. . Her calmness in the current situation , improved my mood and gave me some peace of mind.

' Let Neo be happy, she deserves it. In the meantime, I'll figure something out. '

I thought, looking around for something that might work. But not even a minute had passed when , my thoughts and planning were interrupted by the loud sound of a car stopping. Of course, there were many cars and a lot of noise here, even though the sirens had already been turned off. However, the difference in this case was that it was right above us. Then there was the sound of a car door opening and someone stepping out of the car.

"On the grim. But it stinks so bad it stings my eyes."

Said a young voice, sounding as if its owner was holding his nose.

"Go and get a mask from car , you idiot. Don't breathe in the fumes. Who knows what kind of crap you'll catch just by breathing . "

Said a different voice, muffled by what was most likely a mask.

"Oh, holy crap, look at that, Lieutenant. The whole building is hanging on a single cable. It makes you want to shoot it and watch the building fall."

Said the young voice again, this time muffled by the mask. And the content of his words made me pale.

' Shoot that cable, and I swear that once I get out of here, I'll force you to eat your own flesh . '

I swore to myself in my mind , clenching my teeth and calming my breathing. Those words really worried me, because knowing my luck, I could have really come across an idiot who would have done that. Moreover, now I knew why the building hadn't fallen. However, the fact that it was because of some cable was not reassuring. If anything, this compelled me to get us out of our current situation even faster.

However, no matter how I thought about it, first we would have to get out of the building without causing it to collapse into the sinkhole. Only when we do this we can think about doing something else. Just as I was thinking , the voices from above continued their conversation.

"One more word and I'll shoot you. Get a hold of yourself. You're a police officer, not some street thug destroying things that look cool to destroy. Remember, you idiot, every bullet used must be included in the report. And I'm not going to cover for you or take the blame for not stopping you. So control yourself and keep on with the job, or I really won't be able to hold back and I'll put the bullet in you . "

Said the older voice with obvious dissatisfaction and threat . Apparently, his colleague had been asking for a bullet for some time, and his senior was beginning to lose patience. And apparently the threat must have worked, because the young voice did not speak again. I could only thank the older one for stopping the younger idiot from sending us to the bottom of the tank.

" All right. Better keep your weapon ready. The suspects may still be nearby. "

The older voice continued, and then the sounds of footsteps around the hanging building intensified. Apparently, they hadn't left but had begun to circle the area. And there must have been someone else besides them, because several other voices and footsteps could be heard.

At that moment, I realized that climbing up and getting out onto the street without being detected was practically impossible as long as there were people circling around, especially now that Neo was unable to help.

' So, it's a fight, '

I thought , with a sigh, while I mentally prepar myself. The only other alternative was to go down to the reservoir and cross the platforms attached to the walls to get to one of the tunnels. But I really didn't want to do that. Not because it's disgusting, it's just dangerous. Even as a desperate homeless person, I never let myself go into the sewers. Too many dangers.

" Bang!!!!! "

Then came the sudden shoot . The cable holding it all together was destroyed. The sudden shot took away my choice. I felt my heart pounding and panic rising in my throat. Only then did the feeling of weightlessness motivate me to do something to save us. Without thinking much, I created as many clones as I could and wrapped them around us, hoping they would cushion what was to come.
