Weber was silent for a moment. "Are you sure?"
"I'm sure! The activation of the original cell mechanism is a necessary condition for function recovery. When it's cleared, the recovery stops. This is the evidence of causality you wanted."
Weber didn't speak again. He picked up the chart and looked at it once more, then put it down. His expression was calm, but Manstein noticed his fingers on the desktop tighten slightly. This subtle body language was all too familiar to him. A man who had conducted scientific research for fifty years, upon seeing evidence he had waited for so long, didn't cheer or weep but clenched his fingers. Because he knew this evidence wasn't the end, it was the beginning.
