The night sky was so much brighter tonight, twinkling with stars above as we strolled down the beach near the restaurant. Our bare feet sank into the wet sand as the waves rolled up to our ankles playfully then retreated.
The moon was glowing overhead, the only light we could see. Her hand was so warm in mine, our fingers fitting together like two halves of a locket finally becoming whole. We were both silent, leaving our footprints in the sand as a trail behind us without needing a single word to explain how we felt.
At this moment, our hearts beat on the same wavelength and there was no difference between her and me.
The weight Cat had been carrying for days and weeks had lifted the farther we had gotten from LA and from our home. I could see her smile become more genuine, feel her body relaxing as she leaned against me repeatedly, seeking comfort that we were okay, that nothing between us was broken.
