When Leo let me go, I tried to reach for him, but Taylor grabbed me from behind, pulling me away and backing up with me and his arms. I kicked his shins and flailed in Taylor’s tight hold.
“Leo!” I called after him and fought Taylor with all my heart and soul.
How could he leave and go to them? I understood that Leo was a protector, and I even understood why he left. But I wanted him back, and I had not wanted him to go in the first place. I had stood there and helped him put on that stupid coat and put gloves on his big hands and tugged a Scully down over his head. What was I thinking?
I knew as soon as he explained what had been said over the phone, that he wouldn’t stay inside with my family and me. He would never have put us in that kind of danger, nor would he have left us to fend for ourselves either.
