I lifted my head as my cell phone blared obnoxiously. I cursed the little device when Bianca stirred from where she lay against my chest. I kissed the top of her head and wrapped my arms more tightly around her. One quick glance at the digital clock on the nightstand revealed that it was the middle of the night.
I shut my eyes for a quick second, knowing that this was going to be a work call and it was likely urgent. I let myself enjoy just another moment of peace, focusing on the feeling of Bianca’s naked body pressed against mine.
I had known that it was only a matter of time before our peace was interrupted. That was the life of a don though. We couldn’t really have a normal life. I knew that was why I had to leave this position. I had to do it for my family. I couldn’t even imagine having a baby around this chaos.
