" Omg. Heck no. " She tried to walk away but Nathan grabbed her back and although he wasn't sure how to handle the situation he could only do one thing while she freaked out.
" You don't do hieghts and yet you'll throw yourself out of a hole with a 100 foot drop to save Drew. Okay." He pulled her to him but not in the way he was trying to do but it got her attention.
Leaning his face towards hers he vagualy looked at her lips as she couldn't move.
" Breathe." He moved in closer as he hoped she didn't notice she was pratically on the edge. Face mer centemeters near hers thats when he barely had to push her for her to barely breath out as her eyes went wide in fear. He pushed her off the ledge.
The only thing that kept him from wanting to scream as he dangled his feet in the air as they were both suspended in the air was the fact that a sense of calm that ran through him and even though it said a lot, in the moment he could sense an evil darkness. Through her eyes the world had already ended. The fire she saw in the image in her mind was to hot for her but deep down it was as if Marie didn't mind, she enjoyed every moment.
"You can't kill someone who should already be dead!"
Marie stared out past Nathan even though she could still see the fire in her mind she felt something else, but was this her? She wasn't sure if she liked it for sure but at the same time it felt right. Marie had to shake her head and not just from the throbbing pain that suddenly hit her hard. It felt as if It weren't her at all if anything it reminded her of Averia. She hated that feeling when she stated she wanted to watch the whole world burn; and it still sent shivers up her spine. Nathan was below her and although she tried to not think of the height diffrence she still didn't want to look down. Just thinking scared her and she didn't want another thing to cloud her judgment or perspective. She clung for dear life as she knew she needed to move.
She looked to her right as her body faced the right more than the left and if she moved even the slightest wrong move she knew she'd be toast.
" You weren't scared when you jumped through the hole Marie, breathe, just breathe." The rope and the rocks where she clung to for dear life was not just an example of her stupidity but if she didn't want this then why did she come? Even as she asked she still felt something deep inside of her lurch forward but she only hoped it was the confidence that would help her and not something evil and demonic. She didn't even like her thoughts that did go another way.
Marie looked down breifly grabbing onto the rock barley below her but as she even moved her foot the rock gave way as her head hit the rock wall in front of her making her not just loose focus but her grasp. A yelp escaped her as she felt her eyes move to the back of her head as her name was yelled out before she lost consiouness.
Nathans pov:
" Marie." Groaning out he could only do so much from his position but he saw the fear before her eyes rolled into the back of her head as her body went limp. " Freaking nuts." Pushing hard with his legs he went back up knowing the danger of letting her go from the rope, but it was the only way. Hoping she wouldn't wake he grabbed the rock right beside her before seeing the blood and although he grabbed her around the hips pulling her body to his he needed to put her over his shoulder but with the amount of blood he needed to treat it right away. He couldn't do that where he was. " Mother of Jesus why?"
Nathan grabbed her rope as he safely clipped he harness around the both of them and even in the moment he knew if he made the wrong choice she'd fall for it as she wasn't exactly tied right to him. Jerking the rope with his bare hands he climbed down the steep rock wall with her face baried in his neck. He could feel the blood and smell it which could only mean an animal could smell it as well. If it wasn't his luck! He tried to think fast before finally reaching the bottom.
His arms went around her body not ready to let her go just yet and even though she wasn't heavy he knew he needed to fix the wound. Grabbing the nessesary items for a fire he flicked the lighter onto the branch several times before it actual caught. Having that done he immediatley tended to her head noticing it was far from the scar. He talked to himself grabbing the nessesary equipment before finally cleaning the wound. Thankfully he didn't need to give stitches but any deeper and it would've been catistrophic. The ointment and then the bandage around her head only made it seem worse but he could only hope it wouldn't be to bad with how it happened. IF anything he shouldn't think like that considering the outcome that could've happened.
Marie's pov:
Even when she tried to wake up she felt weak. Was she just trying to call for help? She couldn't tell and if anything was she dead, she felt dead, maybe she was just numb. It would explain everything. " Marie. Don't move. You'll hurt yourself even more."
"Nathan?" She couldn't really say his name but she could barely move her hand. She questioned what happened before the pain hit her again as she again saw darkness.
" I had to so he wouldn't be suspicious. I had to make sure he wouldn't just think that I wasn't really the bad guy. I need to win this and not just because i want the fun but the glory when I get my reward. To see them suffer, beg till they die. I can hear it already. "
Marie didn't understand what she was seeing and if anything she wondered why she wasn't just seeing herself from her point of view but she actually saw herself and not in her own body. The face of her turned towards as she spoke and every word went down her spine causing goosbumps and worse she felt every word course through her. Why would she do this?
" Why would 'you' do this? I'm not just a figment of your imagination but i am you!"
People weren't joking when they said the worst enemy was yourself.
Why couldn't she be what she wanted to be instead she heard every name in the book. When was there anyone that wasn't mean to her, people drove her insane if anything. People said what they wanted, even abused her. She didn't want to remember Jack or Warren and what they had done to her. She didn't like the ones that called her a friend when they were clearly fake to her. She didn't have to work hard but she just got away from it while she looked back at the life that wasn't hers anymore Drew and Aizora weren't exactlyexactly having their fun.
" Sweet niblets."
bones littered the ground where they stepped and it smelled badly as everything about it seemed off. Some of the bodies seemed to be baried into the dirt wall as other bodies laid there from a fight from earlier. Thats what terrified them both before Drew stepped into the dried blood as they looked at each other with the same look grabbing their guns. " They both stepped back after yells and screams were heard as the horror they saw only pentetrated down their spines. Nathan already looked spooked as if he'd seen it somewhere before. Among Theives, he didn't need those memories. These were hairier, and they weren't happy at all, on top of that he knew them as if they were the same ones from before only they were black with white eyes that seemed glare into their souls. The screaming he thought that was coming from the scared people really came from the creatures and never in his life did he actually like the sights of evil.
He could've sworn the eyes had changed color but then again he must've blinked, however the monsters threw their captives in their massive like paws onto the the stone ground jumping and stomping onto them as their screams died out quicker than their bones. Marie stared out in shock as a shriek left her lips as Nathan jerked her backwards towards the entrance as the monsters heard the noise. Nathan had her pinned against the wall leading into the hallway the littered with bones as he stared back into the other room. He couldn't see anything but the huge water fountain.
" Breathe Marie. Don't yell, scream anything or you'll get us both killed."
He looked down at her puppy eyes that held sadness and fear and although she clung to him he knew they'd die together if she kept it up. She definately didn't have any experience as much as he did but she was still amazing when she didn't think to much. He looked at her head thinking of how he did help when it didn't look like she was going to make it, He didn't want to question it as he could feel her hand around his arm like a burn from an oven. They both carefully walked around the bones as they didn't want to make any sudden noises but looking back into the room the creatures were gone.
" Where'd they go?"
If anything he saw this before and he didn't like it, if only she knew of the mystery of the creatures. It took a lot to even kill one and seeing the hole high up he knew thats exactly where they had went.
" Give me a boost?"
She looked at the hole before questioning herself as she cupped her hands together with her back against the wall that remained.
" Hurry, You're heavy." She groaned under the pressure before lifting with her legs as best she could.
Nathan pulling himself up turned and immediatley grabbed her wrist pulling her higher before latching onto her other hand jerking her towards him.
From what she saw they were close, real close, only she couldn't tell what he was thinking even with the look on his face that held nothing.
" Lets go."
She couldn't remember ever feeling fear this much in her life as she watched everything around them like a hawk. The faint whistling was heard but it sounded as if it where from far away but as she heard it she looked over at Nathan who still held a look she couldn't place. " Are you Okay?" She was sincerly worried expesally when he looked down at her. She only wished that sometimes she could hear his thoughts. What was he thinking about that made him look terrifying? The look on his face made her shudder, it scared her. " I don't know. Something isn't adding up." He murmured to himself after as if he were trying to think out loud only she couldn't hear him.
" Like you could hear anything he thinks you couldn't hear me even when I tried to kill us both."
Marie didn't need that not when she felt that go down her spin. She already felt as if she needed to lie down, rest before anything else happen. The whistling got louder but she couldn't tell where it was coming from as the wind picked up instantly when they got to the ledge.
" Try to not die when you're going around the rock!" Nathan had to yell due to the wind acting tough but she could only do so much as she thought she heard something else in the wind but she wasn't even sure. She put weight on the stone rock sliding herself against the rock and even though Nathan followed she felt as if he went first she barely knew what she was doing. She tried to focus her breathing but her anxiety had gotten the best of her as she didn't notice the rope that hung down from above. Where did that come from?
She thought she heard Nathan but looking towards where he was next to her he wasn't there. Maybe he was taking it slower than her. Trying to see without falling to her death it was the end of the path, but where did the rope lead? She wasn't sure if she wanted to know with fear running up and down her spine. It only filled her mind with other things that could happen. " Nathan!" She still couldn't hear him through the whistling wind as she fisted her hand around the rope before praying outloud.
" Oh God!"
" Need a push?"
It was as if a force pushing her body from the rock as she barely felt anything running down her spine before seeing something black through the corner of her eye. The fear still there she didn't want to know as Nathan stuck the landing as he had came from somewhere abover her. She couldn't remember exactly what happened next as her body slammed into the ground while her hand landed underneath with a sickening snap.
"Ahh!"
The pain was excrusiating as she hissed through her teeth before biting her lip hard drawing blood. She held herself trying to hard not to cry like a baby only the headache that followed made her want to black out but worse make her want to puke. She could tell it wasn't all the way broken but she could tell the diffrence with the bone in between her wrist and arm. Thats were she held her hand at holding the two together as Nathan ran over to her with worry.
" I feel like if I let go my hand will fall off. "
She tried to hold back the tears but she couldn't help several that fell. She only hoped that Nathan didn't think of her as any diffrent even when she was tough. He looked down at her arm as she only tried to breath through the pain.
" We've got to get this situated first before we keep moving."
She breathed loudly but if anything she didn't mean to sound rude in the process. She wanted to rest, sleep so the pain would leave her alone. She felt suddenly weak trying to get up and not just that, light headed. How did she land exactly she couldn't remember and the pain in her head only seemed to get worse. She dragged herself along beside Nathan as she couldn't tell if she was leaning against him or if he was trying to carry her.
" Don't pick me up."
She said it way to calmly before she shifted her left foot in front of her before her knee buckled underneath her. Thankfully she didn't black out but she wanted to. She clung to her wrist as Nathan grabbed her to keep her steady. Breathing in heavy she wanted to cry again when she felt her bone move instead she hissed through her teeth.
" it'll be getting dark in a few hours, let's go ahead and set up camp."
He helped her towards the jutted out form of a rock that hung out across a clearing inbetwwen several trees that held pears and apples. Nathan himself didn't like it when they had to stop not when he knew the hairy beasts could be anywhere. he found himself looking in every direction in paranoia while trying his best to wrap the gauz around her hand. Seeing the way she landed with her arm and hand underneath her. He knew he heard something from where he was and that noise only seemed to echo through his mind; It only made what he did every day seem more dangerious. He never broke anything and the way he did everything wasn't harmless till now.
" Does this hurt?"
He moved her hand upward as her palm face him fingers outstretched towards the sky.
" not much."
that was a lie, it hurt a lot; but she knew they had to rest before going forward.
" I think I broke it, I can feel it right there in between the hand and wrist."
She held it with her other hand after he let go, and even though his gaze didn't leave her it was as if he was somewhere else.
Nathan's Pov:
Maybe it would've been easier if he had done this on his own. He had to think even with her hissing in pain it didn't seem to help the nagging bad feeling. They needed to get away from the bad weird 'Things' that haunted him to the core. He hated the horrible feeling that went through his spine even when he tried to not think about it.
Memory:
The white fur whizzing past his face as he held the shotgun shooting at the things that had a weird but scary face running right at him. Shooting was the only option even though he quickly ran out of bullets. " No. " He yelled curses seeing his friend throw bullets his way. He cussed again seeing it didn't land near him. He moved swiftly but not fast enough before something hard but white landed on top of him. " Ah!"
Mouth open as if in a scream near his face the creature made a high screeching hiss instead. It pierced his ears and he immediately hated the noise. Instead of being able to grab the bullets he had to defend himself physically. Holding his hands over the neck the creature tried to bite out but Nathan was faster and used his knee to push it further away.
He cringed hard seeing the face of horror in his mind; that wasn't going to leave him alone; it was going to haunt him. " Ugh!" He grunted after popping something out of place. " Ahh!" The creature crawled back snarling before two shots rand out up above the creature. " God Nathan; You gave me a fright."
He cringed hard feeling dread wash over him. He knew they were hard to kill the first time but these were definatley different.
He heard the distance shrieking but it didn't sound like they weren't far enough. He wondered not only how they were going to make it out alive but he could'nt help but wonder where his brother was exactly. The last time he had seen him was when he was shot.
" What are you thinking?"
He had forgotten the part where he wasn't just alone but to turn of the emotions in front of people, expesally girls.
" How to get past those things without dying. " he chuckled barley looking at her as he hoped she bought it even though it were partly true.
" I don't think I'll be able to sleep without nightmares after that." He looked at her as she looked out across the trees as if expecting something to be right there.
" It scary but we'll be fine. " He could only hope and pray as she didn't seem to sure about it or anything.
" What about Aizora and Drew? How are we supposed to know if theyre okay?"
They were good questions but he didn't know what to say other than maybe they're doing better than they were.
" I'll take the first watch, Marie try to rest, you need it more than I do."
He wasn't exactly sure if she was going to listen even with the look on her face when she looked at him but she looked back at the make shift bed that only one could sleep.
" I miss the tent."
It was all she said but what was that compared to this? That had him question if anything was ever going to go back to the way they were. 13 minutes in and he could hear her slightly as he knew she was asleep. Her brown locks curved around her head as she moved her head ever so slightly. A few locks feel drapping over her eyes and nose. He didn't want to wake her so he looked away towards the night sky and the several stars that over looked them.
" I wish I was with you brother."
He wished he could already find him. Why was it so hard? He thought back to being that little Naive boy who thought his brother and the promise he made would come back for him; but waiting only made him feel broken but he tried his best to feel that emptiness with other things. Girls, stealing, the adventures but they never really helped. If anything he still felt a pang in him missing and he wondered if his brother was even alive.
Sully confirmed with him that he was seen but it could've been anyone else. It made him sad, and he was to tired to be sad. Feeling lonely wasn't great but he wasn't that into girls, he wasn't desprate for that. He was only desprate to find his brother.
he tried to shake his brother from his mind but everything was pointing to the north where his brother was. The worse part was he didn't want to be wrong and yet he had the feeling all to familiar or maybe he was used to it, either way he didn't want to hit another dead end.
Marie's pov:
She didn't understand the dream nor did she feel like herself, it felt all to real, very vivid like she was flying in mid air. She had a darkness about her she wasn't quit sure was right. She was a bad person and it felt good. It looked like black goo oozing out of her hands and the man in the mask that she felt like she knew had the same power but something about him felt great; and not in the way that was evil. They were supposed to be good but she turned bad the second it felt good.
Like spider-man he could web someone into the wall and make them stick only with their powers the person would be covered head to toe, cocooned. So far nothing could stop them. She laughed and the laugh didn't belong to her and that was what made her volt awake. It felt to weird, crazy even. What was that.
" You okay?"
Nathan seemed dazed and even though he asked her she wanted to ask the same.
" Not sure. I don't think I'll be able to get more sleep. " She moved off the make shift bed and sat next to him looking out across the million stars as the moon sat towards the southeast. the nature that she once loved she breathed in hating the feeling of death. " I sometimes wish I never came back. Most the time I can't sleep and I hate that feeling like I can't breathe half the time. I don't know how you or Lara do it all the time. How?"
She wanted to say more and even with the nagging laugh in her mind that she couldn't shake she could see Nathan's look of hurt across his face.
" My brother would say It's fine, keep going. Nothings never lost. Most the time I am Lost and I've got to find my way back. "
He muttered under his breathe but she heard him and she felt bad. His brother was Lost and he was trying to find him.
" I can take watch if you want to hit the hay?"
He looked out at the sky as if waiting for an answer but none came instead he sighed as she felt like he made a mistake.
" I'm not tired. I saw we pack up and get going."
He looked at her and she saw the hurt behind his eyes but the look also scared her, and even though he wasn't asking she didn't say anything but stood helping; after she stayed a little aways from him as though he was about to explode. She felt that feeling all to well and if he didn't push those feelings aside they'd both be dead.
