[Chapter Size: 2600 Words.]
Third Person POV.
King's Landing.
...
...
"Speaking of which, everyone is already aware that I eliminated all the Frey, Bolton, Westerling, and Lannister houses because of what happened at the Twins, right? I would not allow any house that participated in the Red Wedding and violated guest rights to survive. I hope this serves as a historical example as well." Daemon added, reminding them of that detail. No one could protest; they already knew why he had wiped out all of those families as well.
"Well, with that, we are finished here. I will not ask everyone to swear their oaths today, but certainly, after everything I have said, I want to see who will follow me."
"I ask that everyone who will come with me to the North kneel. All those who recognize my rule, kneel before a new king." Daemon demanded it, and his words were met with the uncertainty of many.
However, very quickly, the people of the North, the Stormlands, the Riverlands, the Westerlands, and the Crownlands began to kneel in their respective sections.
Seeing that caused a cascade effect. Even many of the defeated men began kneeling one after another.
Of course, not everyone.
Most of the Reach seemed to recognize him, as did a little more than half of Dorne. The other part did not seem willing to acknowledge him as king.
"All those who did not kneel, take them to the Black Cells." Daemon gave the order as the soldiers quickly began seeking out each of them.
He already had an idea of what he could do with those men. Some protests arose, but Daemon ignored them.
He would deal with each one personally and decide what to do. Perhaps he would allow someone else to take their places, perhaps he would simply erase their houses from the map and place another family in their seats.
Tyrannical, but also efficient.
A minute later, he stood up. "Everyone, rise. I appreciate your support."
"Now, I ask that you seek out the stewards I have made available so that you may choose a place to stay. You will remain within the castle as long as you follow our rules. Also offer bread and salt to everyone; do not worry, guest rights will not be broken while I am here."
"We will speak about war punishments later, but I guarantee they will be far less severe than the fate of those who still defy me and are in the Black Cells at this very moment." Daemon said as everyone listened attentively.
With a pause, he brought it to an end. "I now consider this council concluded." And with those words, Daemon began to leave, while several men followed him as well.
Val moved close beside him together with Ygritte.
They had not knelt, nor had Mance and the other members of the Free Folk. Daemon had never demanded that of them, because the agreement had been to fight the dead and help him in the war to conquer King's Landing. Once everything was complete, they could return to the lands beyond the Wall or remain in the kingdoms, but in that case, they would have to obey the laws like anyone else and, indeed, kneel.
Daemon headed to his solar. He still needed to study the maps again and send a few letters.
While Val and Ygritte went to the bedroom, he requested an audience with Marwyn in his solar. The archmaester was summoned to the king's solar.
"Tell me, Maester Marwyn, why your visit? I don't think you came seeking answers about why I killed several archmaesters at the Citadel. If that's your reason, then you already know why." Daemon said while observing the man.
Marwyn gave a sad smile. "That is one of the reasons, Your Majesty. Indeed. So I thank you for clearing up this old man's doubts." Marwyn replied calmly.
"Then I hope you won't be too frightened, since perhaps I am the first king who began massacring people with his own hands."
"Well, we have had many cruel kings throughout history, but even in the eyes of most, your cruelty still seems quite justified. After all, you found sufficient reason to eliminate them and deal with traitors. Although many still disagree..." said Marwyn, despite maintaining a certain degree of caution.
Daemon laughed. "I will try to be a just king, but I will always be cruel to those who deserve it." He made that clear, while Marwyn nodded, accepting his logic.
Before the matter could come to an end, Daemon continued: "In any case, I have an invitation for you. I would like you to become the maester of the Red Keep."
"What?" The maester seemed quite surprised, looking at Daemon with a measure of disbelief. He had not expected such an invitation, so suddenly.
"As you can see, Maester Nolum is the temporary maester here and does not like the position very much. He does not like attracting attention or dealing with important people. But I need someone who has the intelligence of a maester without being a spy for the order or a fool driven by greed..."
"I feel that you can be that man, Maester Marwyn. And my instincts are almost never wrong." Obviously, the golden light could change, just as a black light could become golden.
A golden aura could also become black. It would be enough, for example, to kill the parents/children/lovers of someone with a golden aura in front of that person. Just an example...
In any case, even with the invitation, the aura remained golden. The man did not seem to have any malicious intentions and appeared to have a worthy future as the king's Grand Maester...
On the other hand, Marwyn's primary goal was to understand a man who mastered magic, but what he was receiving at that moment was an unprecedented invitation.
"Do you mean permanently or temporarily?" Marwyn asked.
"Permanently. I would prefer to keep you as the king's official maester," Daemon replied.
The man nodded. "You honor me, Your Majesty. Since you are asking this of me, I will accept. But I would also like to make a request." Daemon raised an eyebrow, and the man continued. "I would like to learn about your magic."
Daemon seemed to think for a few moments. "Well, that will not be impossible, given that you will probably teach my son in the future." He thought of the child Daenerys was carrying in her womb.
"That can be arranged, yes. But there is absolutely no guarantee that you will learn anything. At most, you will only be able to understand the basics."
"Unfortunately, there is not enough magic in the air of this world. Perhaps there is a little more now that the dragons have returned, but it is still extremely scarce. My son will have much greater potential because he will inherit my internal mana reserves and will not need to depend on the magic in the world's air itself... In Skyrim, it is very common for powerful mages to copulate in order to create more powerful mages. Most archmages are the children of other mages."
"In other words, developing magical power in this world is practically impossible beyond a beginner's level. Assuming you can even reach that... I can teach you so that you understand the fundamentals and perhaps so that you can teach my son in the future, but I do not believe you will be able to do much."
That was his sincere opinion. And Marwyn was very old; his body would never be able to develop magic beyond creating a few lights in his hand, perhaps a basic healing spell.
Marwyn observed that for a few moments before nodding. He understood, but even so, it was worth it. "Very well. I accept."
"Excellent. Then welcome to the royal staff, Maester Marwyn." Daemon gave a small smile. "I will leave the Red Keep in your hands from now on regarding everything related to the mind." He did not need to fill the man with questions or doubts. He also knew that this man should not have any loyalty to the order; his name had never been mentioned in those rebellion documents.
So Daemon would trust the golden aura that shone around him.
It had been a long day, but the king had already finished his duties. He needed to prepare some documents and also send certain letters to the Vale.
Stannis would depart for Dragonstone tomorrow. And the northern lords would depart as well. Daemon went to his chambers before dinner. That was when he heard the sound of coughing.
As he approached, he found his guards together with a boy. It was none other than Monterys Velaryon, standing in the middle of the corridor.
Sandor was behind Daemon as they approached.
"Your Majesty," said the boy, bowing quickly along with the others behind him and the guards at the door of the king's chambers.
"You came, as I requested. Have you been waiting long?" Daemon asked.
"Not very long," said the boy, before beginning to cough.
"Wait a moment. I am going to change into something lighter before we deal with your problem." Daemon said as he entered his chambers.
After passing by the guards and leaving Sandor behind, he found Val reading a book while Ygritte was in the bath, washing herself.
"There's a boy looking for you," said Val.
"I know. I already saw him outside waiting."
"Then he's been waiting for you for two hours," Val replied, raising an eyebrow.
Daemon merely shook his head, somewhat surprised. "Well, I am practically the person who said I would cure him and prevent him from meeting a tragic end. It was obvious he would come and stay for as long as necessary." As he spoke, he removed the clothes he had worn during the council and put on something more comfortable.
A short while later, he returned outside and looked at Monterys. "Follow me."
The guards, the boy, and Sandor Clegane followed him to another room in the same wing. They arrived at the door, and only the king and the young Velaryon entered.
Daemon had transformed that place into a small private laboratory, even making use of some of the inventions Qyburn had secretly created together with Cersei, conducting experiments out of Pycelle's sight.
There were several jars and ingredients scattered throughout the room. Daemon had been gathering them around the Red Keep to make his mixtures and establish a laboratory.
While the boy watched, he began separating various herbs, taking them from his personal inventory.
"Well, tuberculosis has no cure in this world. It is basically a death sentence." Daemon turned his attention to the boy seated near him as he began mixing the herbs and crushing them in a mortar.
"And it can be transmitted. Did you know that?" he asked.
The boy nodded. "Yes. All of my bed linens have been burned ever since I caught it. Ever since I was infected by a fisherman who came from the Iron Islands. His entire crew died." Daemon nodded.
"I'm sorry to hear that." He continued working.
If you sneeze in someone's face while carrying this disease, there is a good chance of transmitting it. But it is not as simple as it seems, obviously. It takes more than just an airborne virus to develop, but it is still deadly.
In a world without magic or the blessings of the gods, it was practically a death sentence.
Daemon continued mixing the ingredients until the preparation was finally ready. He then began heating it over the fire.
"I heard that House Velaryon became the richest house in the entire realm at one point in history." Daemon could not help commenting while the boy nodded.
"Yes. Some of my ancestors managed to elevate the house to heights that would make even a Lannister jealous."
"There were also several marriages between the Velaryons and the Targaryens. You still carry the blood of the dragon." He hummed those words while the boy seemed excited and proud.
"Yes, Your Majesty. House Targaryen and House Velaryon have always been united."
"Well, that is why I would like you to build a future for your house."
Daemon spoke sincerely while waiting for the potion to heat up. Then he began transferring it into another glass container and mixing it with several more ingredients, since the heating was necessary to produce certain effects.
"I will do my best, Your Majesty, to try to restore my house." Daemon nodded.
"I have high expectations of you, boy. I hope House Velaryon becomes powerful again, since, as you yourself said, it has always been one of House Targaryen's greatest allies, more than most houses in Westeros ever were. And I hope you make it so powerful and wealthy that even the Lannisters would feel envy."
He paused briefly. "Although there are not many Lannisters left alive to feel that envy." Daemon commented as he finished the potion and handed it to the boy.
"You will take this for three days. Come see me the day after tomorrow, at this same time, in case I forget."
The boy nodded and drank the potion without hesitation, despite its strange taste. It was his last hope. He made a face at the end, wiped his lips, and stood up from the chair.
Daemon took the cup and placed it on the table, satisfied that he had taken it.
"It is very likely that I will not be in the castle at this time tomorrow, but I will prepare the potion and leave it with your maester so that he can give it to you, all right?"
The boy nodded. "Are you going somewhere, Your Majesty?" he asked curiously. With everything seeming to be centered around the capital at that moment, the king not being there... it was a little surprising.
"Do not worry about that. I will only be gone for a day. I need to take care of a few things, but I will return the following day to begin dealing with my prisoners in the Black Cells." Daemon said while the boy nodded.
Shortly afterward, he returned to his chambers.
Dinner took place only between Daemon, Val, Ygritte, and Lafy in the royal chambers.
While they ate, Daemon asked Maester Nolum to begin introducing Archmaester Marwyn to his duties and responsibilities within the Red Keep.
The following day, Daemon announced at court that he would be leaving that day and would return only at night...
Before departing, he prepared the potion for the young Velaryon and distributed several responsibilities among his lords.
Meanwhile, Stannis was already preparing to leave with around twenty ships, taking men to begin mining dragonglass on Dragonstone.
Daemon went to Viridrax. Unfortunately, his cell was still not ready. After all, he would have to return to the North to retrieve the rings and all the leather he had commissioned; it was not finished yet. He had requested that the manufacturing be done in King's Landing precisely to speed up the process, but it would still take some time before everything was completed.
Everyone was shocked when they found out where Daemon was going.
Dorne.
He took flight shortly afterward, moving swiftly toward the south.
The morning sunlight continued to fall upon him as he flew.
Daemon watched the horizon and reflected on many things. There was much to be done. As he crossed the skies, he kept several plans in mind for what he would do later.
