"Any sign of our target?" asked one of the men hidden in the clearing near the road, as a small, discreet camp revealed more than one squad of ninjas dressed in black, hiding their faces.
"They should be arriving at any moment now," the other replied.
Many of them wore the headband of the Water Village, slashed, having abandoned it in recent months and becoming deserters, dissatisfied with the current situation.
In fact, after what happened to Uzushiogakure, they not only turned their hatred toward Konoha for the loss they had caused, but their hatred was also directed at their own village, which was certainly responsible for preparing and attempting to destroy the Uzumaki clan.
There were hundreds of ninjas from all nations who survived the war, or even those who had been in it, seeing their relatives not return from the massacre. Since the defeat was a direct consequence of the choices of the villages themselves, they began to abandon their banners.
It could be said that the world today, especially the black market and bounty hunters, was in full turmoil at that moment, with a large number of hunters and individuals capable of acting independently.
They blamed their own villages even more than they hated Konoha. After all, wasn't it their own greed in trying to weaken Konoha's allied forces that led them to this? The Uzumaki were not just protecting themselves from the attack.
Even ninjas who had not left their villages thought the same. After all, anyone with common sense could understand that the Uzumaki were simply defending themselves, along with their allies — in this case, Minato and his wives.
All the failure could be directed straight to the decisions of the elders and kages within the 4 villages!
Now that group of 30 individuals, including genins, chuunins, and 4 jonins, was waiting, but with no sign of the carriage yet, which was still far out of their range.
Even so, they believed they could see it in the coming days, which is why they had set up camp.
Everything seemed calm; there should have been 2 jonins hidden as scouts to check the situation before they began preparing.
What they had no idea of was that Minato himself appeared in the sky at that moment, but he did nothing other than observe with his arms crossed as he floated in the air, watching his students slowly approach the enemy camp. It was a test. He wanted to see how far they would go.
He had no problem seeing his students in such a dangerous situation, as they approached a group full of adults. After all, he had enough ability to deal with any danger that might arise.
This was proven in the next moment, when the jōnins quickly noticed something was wrong, their instincts were still very sharp; even knowing there should have been 2 jonins guarding the place, they still noticed one of the 3 rats approaching uninvited.
In an instant, they grabbed kunai and threw them between the trees, in the direction of the children who were slowly approaching the camp.
The kunai shot forward at high speed, slicing through the leaves until it appeared close to Rin's face, who widened her eyes as she saw the weapon approaching.
She didn't even have time to react, about to be hit, when a hand appeared over her and pushed her head down, making the kunai pass above. The hand disappeared the next instant.
She widened her eyes as she raised her head again. Kakashi and Obito immediately prepared themselves as they realized their approach had been discovered.
"Some rats approaching!" shouted the jōnin who had thrown the kunai, still not understanding what had happened.
"Damn! Rin, are you okay?" Obito approached her with concern, while she still felt the touch on her head for a moment. She could only imagine it was her sensei, Minato, who had helped her at the last second and disappeared again.
The group quickly stood up. Kakashi also went to Rin with Obito. "Obito, let's attack! We've been discovered, we must attack together with the strategy!" said Kakashi.
Obito nodded. "A fire jutsu, Rin supports with water jutsu!"
With those words, Kakashi and Obito left. Rin quickly began forming several hand seals, took a deep breath, and started spitting several water bullets. They were shot out like projectiles and launched rapidly, piercing through trunks and leaves until reaching the group.
"Take cover!" some shouted, who were certainly genins, before being pierced. An earth barrier began to rise in the middle of the terrain.
Minato watched with satisfaction. Rin had taken down at least four ninjas, while he saw Obito and Kakashi positioning themselves on the flanks of the clearing.
After completing the seals together, they quickly exhaled and completed the fire jutsus. The enemies were surprised, even though the jōnin had already identified the two. The flames simply roared. They could even create a barrier on one side, but the other would be consumed, so they chose to move away.
That ended up consuming nearly half of the remaining group.
"Bastards!" the jōnin immediately advanced. "You take the one on the left!" he shouted to his companion before advancing against Obito.
Obito tried to defend himself, grabbing his kunai and blocking the attack, but he was thrown backward. The jōnin simply turned and launched a direct kick, making Obito choke on his own saliva as he took the impact to the stomach, being thrown against a tree.
"A brat from Konoha... just a brat from Konoha!" the jōnin growled. Although he didn't understand how they had been discovered and passed by the others yet, it was frustrating to realize they were being attacked by children.
He immediately advanced with the kunai to strike Obito's neck, who was getting up with clenched teeth.
But before that, a rain of water bullets advanced rapidly. The jōnin jumped to another tree, dodging easily, but he couldn't help raising an eyebrow as he landed and saw a girl standing in front of Obito.
"Rin..." Obito murmured gratefully.
On the other side, Kakashi was fighting another jōnin and was being pressured. He had not been easily defeated, even though he was at a clear disadvantage against the jōnin.
That was frustrating for Obito. He was always behind Kakashi.
"Come on, Obito... you can do more than that," Minato commented from the sky, watching the Uchiha's frustration.
Three more enemies joined the jōnin, who now looked somewhat wary. It was too much for Rin to face.
Obito also prepared himself.
"Don't interfere!" the jōnin said immediately and threw a kunai, which made Rin defend herself. Even so, the force made her lose her balance slightly.
In the next moment, her hand was grabbed, as well as her neck. The jōnin appeared in an instant in front of her, lifting her up.
"You damn brat!" he said, grabbing the kunai and about to kill Rin by moving it toward her head.
He was about to strike when a boy ran in from the side. He moved the kunai, changing the target from Rin's head to the boy, trying to kill him with a direct blow to the head as well.
However, Obito dodged at the last instant and, in the next moment, delivered a punch to the man's face, making him fall backward and release Rin.
"Obito..." Rin murmured, shocked, as she looked at her companion.
Suddenly, Obito opened his eyes, revealing two scarlet eyes with two tomoe.
Kakashi was about to be hit on the other side, but someone pulled him aside, while an enemy sword only struck the air, surprising the jōnin and the others who were trying to attack him. Unlike the other one, that jōnin fighting Kakashi called for help.
Minato's eyes, in slow motion, turned forward as he saw Obito revealing his Sharingan. A smile appeared on his face. "Finally... And two tomoe. That's not something that awakens so easily the first time."
"The Sharingan... this brat is a member of the Uchiha clan!" said the jōnin on the other side, observing the red-eyed boy.
"Whatever, he's just a child!" he said at last, advancing quickly toward Obito.
Rin was still stunned, and Obito tried to protect her, putting himself in a difficult situation. But before the enemy could strike them, Minato decided to intervene.
In an instant, he cut the jōnin's neck with such speed that only a flash was seen. He didn't want to be noticed by the others. The man was split, his head separating from his body without anyone understanding what had happened.
A flash appeared again, eliminating other enemies, before Minato turned his attention to Kakashi, who was finally releasing lightning chakra into his sword.
At the moment the two crossed paths, Minato saw Kakashi cut the enemy's kunai as if it were paper, before delivering a strike that split him directly, while blood gushed everywhere.
"Very good..." Minato was satisfied once again. 2 gains at once with these children!
Kakashi had finally mastered the technique he needed.
The fight continued, now with only chūnins and some surviving genins remaining. Obito and Rin regrouped after receiving help from their sensei to deal with the rest.
Kakashi restrained the strongest one after catching the jōnin off guard. His lightning sword became a killing machine, cutting easily and breaking through any defense, even jutsus, using the Hatake clan's techniques while keeping the electric blade active.
Unfortunately, with his limited chakra reserves, he couldn't maintain it for long, but even so, he managed to deal with all the enemies.
Minato only appeared to defeat a few that still remained against Obito and Rin, and soon everything was over.
Minato asked Rin to put out the forest fire that had been caused by her two companions.
Obito and Kakashi were responsible for organizing the bodies and the captives, as they had left some alive to find out who had given the order.
"Obito, congratulations on the Sharingan," Minato said, while the boy was euphoric, showing his eyes as if they were a trophy.
Rin was happy for her friend and thanked him for being saved, while Kakashi merely scoffed, but had an attentive look.
Now, he looked like a Sasuke watching Naruto gradually grow stronger in the classic anime...
"I want you to try to put our prisoners under a genjutsu. I know Mikoto had given you some tips about that," Minato said to Obito, who nodded.
Even though he had not yet learned to fully activate the Sharingan, he had already studied some scrolls that Minato's wife had given to Obito, mainly basic techniques, even to help awaken his own eye by starting to understand it.
It was no wonder his leap went straight to two tomoe.
Minato returned to the Daimyō's carriage, appearing out of nowhere, making the women get startled again, to the point of almost alerting the guards.
"Sorry about that. I just came to inform you that the enemies have already been taken down... and that I found some hidden orders. You should recognize this, right?" Minato said, taking a paper he had found in a hideout, a bit away from the camp, and handed it to the young daimyō, who widened her eyes.
"This is an order from Lord Raizen..." Sayuri growled.
Minato nodded. "If you want us to deal with this problem, we'll have to create a new mission. You're lucky that I have the authority to do that," Minato said.
The woman took a deep breath and looked at him with some emotion. "Please... I will accept it," she said.
Minato nodded. It wouldn't be an easy mission, but at the very least a rank B would be charged to deal with a conspirator within the Land of Stars.
Obito actually managed to apply a simple genjutsu on some surviving chūnins and genins, further confirming that they had been sent by Lord Raizen.
The intention was to kidnap her and force her into marriage, placing her under house arrest and controlling the entire country. After all, even in a traditional marriage, he would only be the consort, not the true leader of the Tsukiyama family.
After organizing everything and placing the bodies and prisoners under custody, they continued their journey peacefully to the capital. There, Minato acted quickly along with his students: they kidnapped Lord Raizen in one of his bathhouses, while he awaited good news of his plan.
He ended up being captured and taken to trial in the capital, with Minato using Hiraishin.
Under multiple charges, he was executed, with the daimyō herself giving the final order.
They were paid, and after that, Minato and the others returned to Konoha village.
Everything seemed fine, until, in the middle of the journey, Minato felt something.
"It seems she is asking for help..." Minato said mysteriously, looking to the west.
He created a clone without the children understanding. "You, take the scrolls of the completed missions and go to Konoha. Inform my wives about my absence. Meanwhile, we have an urgent mission," he said to his students, who were confused by this sudden turn, before grabbing each of them and disappearing.
He headed directly to a place where a certain queen needed urgent help, as someone was trying to kill her.
His next stop, Rōran!
