Charles' heart clenched instantly. He quickly grabbed Lily and rolled over, using his body to block the sunlight. "Are you trying to get yourself killed?"
"Mr. Charles, don't worry, I'm fine. This sunlight doesn't seem to hurt mice."
"How do you know that?"
"Really! Mao Mao and the others just secretly followed you into the woods."
When Charles saw the mice beside him happily munching away, none of them dead, he finally let out a sigh of relief.
Maybe the mice are built differently from the humans of Abyss-Sea. For now, it seems the sunlight really doesn't harm these rodents.
"Turns out, mice and cockroaches are the most adaptable creatures in the world." Charles felt like he'd found the most likely answer.
Lily scratched at the messy wounds on Charles with her little paw. "Really? Mice are that tough?"
"Yeah, Lily's amazing." Lying on the warm beach, Charles felt a wave of drowsiness. Dreamily, he closed his eyes. "Lily, I'm just gonna sleep for a while."
