Looking at the number on the check, Gavin's face lit up with joy, but he quickly waved his hands and declined. "No, no, no, it is my honor to serve someone who bears the Divine Mark—I don't need any reward."
Charles didn't try to persuade him, simply shoving the check into his hand. "Take it and get your wounds treated. I don't like owing people."
With the check in Gavin's hand, Charles asked, "How much do you know about the Mist Sea?"
Gavin quickly explained, "Sir, that place is called the Mist Sea because it's perpetually foggy. It is the territory of the Heike Clan. Those tall folk don't usually attack people, but if you truly provoke them, they are incredibly difficult to deal with."
Charles frowned slightly. This man was saying the same thing as the captains back at the association.
If this so-called Mist Sea isn't dangerous, then why was Elizabeth so nervous about me coming here? Did she lie to me? But that seems impossible—she had no reason to do so.
