Hearing the Captain's summons, the crew arrived quickly. At Charles's inquiry, Second Officer Krona was the first to speak.
"It's true. During the time you were missing, the people from He Fang said they had found you. But after we went through all the trouble of getting there, we discovered you weren't on the island at all. There was a beautiful woman crying, and she said you'd been snatched by a monster covered in tentacles."
"Why has no one told me this before?"
"We couldn't find you, so we assumed the people from He Fang Island were lying and came straight back. Since you returned to the island on your own later, we simply forgot to mention such a small matter."
Frowning, Charles crumpled the letter in his hand. What it said is true. Margaret really did save me.
Thinking of the crisis Jack described in his letter, Charles's heart tightened. He turned to the butler and said, "Send someone to dispatch a telegram. Contact the Governor of He Fang for me immediately."
