When Charles groggily woke up again, he found himself still in that hospital room. He had no idea how much time had passed.
Looking down at his body, Charles saw that a huge portion of its left side was simply missing. His left arm, along with part of his left chest, had vanished completely. The wound was tightly wrapped in white gauze.
Hearing some movement, Lily, who was curled up under the oil lamp, opened her eyes. When she saw Charles was awake, she immediately sprang up with excitement. "Mr. Charles, you're awake! Are you feeling better?"
"How long was I out?"
"A whole week! We were so worried about you. Sister Linda said that if you didn't wake up soon, you might never wake up again."
Hearing this, Charles leaned back against the soft pillow.
The back of his head had barely touched it before he sat up again. He looked at Lily, his voice filled with an urgency he couldn't hide. "Lily, bring me that thing you brought back with me. Quick."
