The Pope seemed furious about Charles's injured eye and raged at him.
Faced with this, Charles made no attempt to appease him and retorted harshly.
Ultimately, the two parted on bad terms—the first time their conflict had become so tense.

The corners of Charles's mouth lifted into a disdainful smile. "You think so? He's probably just worried I can't help him explore the island anymore. A reliable tool like me isn't easy to find."
Looking at Charles's bandaged eye, the Doctor sighed helplessly again. "Then what about your eye? Or are you planning to retire and stay on the island?"
"I'll get a prosthetic eye," Charles said, a knot of anxiety tightening in his chest. "What, can't they do that?"
