The rhythmic tap of Charles's boots was the only sound in the empty corridor.
Normally, the Governor's Mansion on Hope Island was this quiet. The maids and servants only came in when necessary for cleaning and organizing; most of the time, they did not remain inside the mansion.
"Lily? Are you in here?" Charles pushed open the kitchen door, but the little one wasn't inside stealing food.
Strange, where did that little girl go? Charles had searched the entire Governor's Mansion but still hadn't found his gunner.
Things had been quite busy lately. Now that he thought about it, Lily had been acting strange ever since they returned. She would often disappear for an entire day, and he had no idea what she had been up to.
Charles walked over to a mouse hole by the door and kicked the wall next to it. "Where did your boss go?"
There was no response from within the hole.
