The Pope was gone for an hour. When he returned, his expression was ecstatic. He nodded at Charles, unable to contain himself. "Yes, that's the exit to the Earth's surface! The entire door is made of a special, incredibly tough metal. I tried, but it's completely impenetrable."
"We need to get back to the ship at once. I'll mobilize the full power of the Light God Sect to destroy this door! Charles, our God is coming out! Our God is finally going to escape his predicament!" the Pope said, looking even more excited than Charles.
For some reason, seeing the Pope so jubilant actually dampened his own spirits.
There was no more time to delay. Charles led everyone down the stairs, rapidly leaving the rooftop behind. Only on the way down did Charles realize the building housed an array of complex equipment. The Foundation had vanished so many years ago, yet this building was spotless and every floor had power. He had no idea where the electricity was coming from.
