Lily's eyes were full of pleading. "I know you're avoiding us. I'm really scared. If you leave this time, I might never see you again."
Charles thought for a long time, then finally said helplessly, "Lily, you shouldn't stay by my side. Maybe it was fine before, but not anymore. Some things have changed."
"Why can't I stay with you? Is it because I turned into a human? I can change back!" Lily's voice grew agitated.
But just as Lily finished speaking, a shadow flashed behind Charles. A cold light gleamed—a scratch appeared across his face, and dark red blood slowly oozed from the wound.
Charles didn't react. His brows furrowed, and a sharpness he hadn't shown in a long time gathered in his eyes. He questioned in a low voice, "Are you all done messing around?"
