Pete halted mid-step the moment he stepped out of the elevator and saw Gina waiting outside his office, Becca seated behind her desk with a barely concealed look of discomfort.
"Mr. Hudson, Ms. Gina is here—"
Gina spun around immediately, a radiant smile lighting up her face.
"Hey, love."
Pete's gaze flicked briefly toward Becca.
"Get me a cup of coffee, move my twelve o'clock to eleven-twenty, and send that incident report to my email."
"Yes, sir."
Without sparing Gina so much as a greeting, Pete strode into his office and towards his desk.
For a fraction of a second, embarrassment tightened across her face, but she quickly buried it beneath another sweet smile before following after him.
The office doors shut behind her softly.
"Hey, sugar." She started toward his desk where he was now seated.
Pete finally looked at her fully.
The stare that met her wasn't warm. Wasn't welcoming.
"What are you doing here?" He demanded flatly, briefly causing her heels to halt.
