"Now, we're going to teach you some fire magic spells," Cecile announced.
An ancient-looking scroll appeared in Cecile's palms.
"I'll never get used to this." Josh was awed at the usefulness of the spatial ring.
Cecile threw the scroll at Josh.
[Tier 1 fire type spell scroll]
Josh received a system notification, informing him that the book he currently held in his hand was a tier 1 fire-type spell scroll.
"just stare at the magic cycle," Cecile instructed.
"What?" Josh raised his eyebrows at such a simple instruction.
"It's really that easy." Cecile shrugged, "once you have ingrained the magic cycle in your memory, you'll be able to cast the spell. This doesn't make it easy though, the higher the tier of spells you are trying to learn, the higher the difficulty to remember the magic cycle."
"This is a tier one spell scroll," Josh said.
"Of course." Cecile nodded.
"What is the highest tier of magic spells?" Josh asked.
"Divine spells," Cecile replied, a bit taken aback by his question.
"How long does it take to learn a tier eight spell?" Josh asked.
"It usually takes a decade or more for geniuses that is," Cecile replied.
"Such a long time to learn just a spell." Josh sighed.
At this rate, he would have to wait for years, even decades before he could reach the pinnacle of power he wished. Not to mention that he had to unite the seven mystic pieces in time.
"You have to understand that this is the highest tier of spells, so it should naturally take a long time to learn." Cecile reminded.
"Right," Josh nodded, "what about this tier-one spell scroll though?" He asked.
"It should take a few hours to a day or two," Cecile replied.
"So long." Josh sighed.
"You better take a seat on the floor," Cecile said.
She sat on the floor in a lotus position and began reading what seemed to be a spell scroll.
Josh sighed and proceeded to sit on the floor in a lotus position. He opened the scroll and stared at the magic circle.
[Congratulations!]
[Tier 1 fire type spell learnt]
[Fire torch- 5 mana points]
The moment Josh saw the magic circle, system notifications appeared across his retina, informing him that he had learnt the tier 1 fire type magic spell "fire torch".
'It seems I haven't lost my touch.' Josh thought delighted.
How could he not be delighted? What usually took a few hours to two days took him only a glance! If at this level of assimilation he was not considered a once-in-a-lifetime genius, he would gladly take another shot at reincarnation.
His high talent did not mean he would have a smooth ride. He had a weight greater than any other on his shoulders. The path he would take would be a long and daunting one.
Josh got up from the floor to the surprise of Cecile who broke her concentration to watch him. What was this disciple of hers up to? Or did he manage to learn the spell in just a matter of seconds?
Cecile shrugged off the thought that Josh had learnt the spell, it had taken her, who was considered a one in a hundred million talent thirty minutes to learn her first tier 1 spell. Perhaps her disciple was trying to do something funny.
Josh envisioned the magic circle in his head, he stretch forth his hand and a warm feeling engulfed his palm.
"How!" Cecile screamed with a dumbfounded expression on her face.
No matter her hard she tried to rationalise it, learning a tier 1 spell in a matter of minutes was simply unreal. The worst part was, he could silently cast it on his first try!
Coupled with his tri-affinity, he also had unreal assimilation. How was it possible that the heavens would bless a single person with so much talent?
'As expected of a vampire. They have unreal geniuses.' Cecile thought.
Although not many people were aware of it. One of the major reasons why Josh had been treated as an outcast, was because he was a product of an affair between his father and a vampire.
What many failed to understand was why Josh was never able to use blood magic, while the entire vampire population could. Cecile had a gut feeling that her disciple was hiding deep secrets.
'Whatever is hidden in the dark, always comes to light.' Cecile thought.
No matter the secrets her disciple was hiding, she believed they would surely be revealed someday.
"Did I do something awesome?" Josh smirked, feeling a bit cocky.
How could he not feel cocky? He had managed to utterly dumbfound Cecile, a powerful figure. Judging by the way she interacted with the principal Jessica, Josh refused to believe that she was just a simple school medic.
"It looks like you're a little more talented than I expected," Cecile replied.
"What next?" Josh asked.
"The more you cast a magic spell. The more you become proficient with it. That means you'll use less mana when casting and the overall power of your spell increases."
"Now, I'm sure that your mana reserves should be particularly low, if not I would've considered teaching you a few tier two spells, so you skip the entire tier one stage."
"So, you'll just be learning a few more tier one spells which should take less than a minute, and then you'll continue casting them to increase your proficiency," Cecile concluded.
"Understood." Josh nodded.
What Cecile was saying made perfect sense. By his estimate from the light novels, he used to read, having a mana stat of twenty-five, which although he was sure was decent as he had never absorbed soul energy. It was pitifully small.
He would have to stick with tier-one spells for now until he had begun killing beasts and absorbing their soul power.
"Take these." Cecile threw two scrolls at Josh.
[Tier 1 fire type spell scroll]
[Tier 1 fire type spell scroll]
Josh received notifications informing him that he currently had two tier-one fire-type spell scrolls.
Cecile just stood, without bothering to read her scroll, as Josh would probably just learn both spells in a matter of seconds. So there was no need for her to take a little rest.
"Thanks." Josh appreciated.
He opened one of the scrolls on the spot and stared at the magic cycle.
[Congratulations!]
[Tier 1 fire type spell learnt]
[Fire ball: 8 Mana points]
Josh received a notification, informing him that he had learnt a tier-one fire-type spell called "Fireball".
Josh proceeded to open the second scroll.
"Learnt that one already?" Cecile asked, seeing that he was opening the second scroll.
"Yeah." Josh nodded and continued with what he was doing.
Cecile sighed, still awed by the amazing talents possessed by her disciple. What if he was born with these talents? Perhaps his family would've treated him better.
Although they would've still seen him as a tool, at least he would have a chance to get stronger and maybe one day force his way out of his family.
Seeing Josh's talents reminded her of herself when she was much younger. How her family would force her to train even if she didn't want to. She never had a childhood of any sort, her daily routine was train-eat-sleep.
The day she left her family was the best day of her life. She was finally able to live her life her way and by her own rules. She took this teaching job mainly because Jessica did a favour, besides she also wanted to have a feel of what it meant to be the medic of a school.
The only thing that was missing in her life was love. All the men she had come across in her life had the intention of wanting to have a taste of her beautiful body like she was just a piece of meat.
Many took her playful and carefree nature as a green light and made perverted advances at her. They all met a sad end.
Perhaps she would die without knowing what it felt to love and to be loved in return. What did it matter? As long as she was living a happy and peaceful life, she was fulfilled.
Josh opened the second scroll and stared at the magic cycle.
[Congratulations!]
[Tier 1 fire type spell learnt]
[Fire fist: 7 Mana points]
Josh closed the second scroll and laid it carefully on the floor next to the other two scrolls.
"You're done?" Cecile asked, seeing his actions.
"Yes." Josh nodded.
"Alright then, follow me," Cecile instructed, and began walking in a particular direction.
Josh shrugged and followed her lead.
When they had arrived in front of what seemed to be a training dummy, she stooped.
"As you can see this is a training dummy," Cecile said.
"Yes, I see it clearly." Josh chuckled.
"Good. Now you're going to continue casting your spells at this dummy to increase your proficiency in using the spells, and to reduce your mana usage." Cecile instructed.
"Take this." Cecile removed a ring from her hand.
"I think it's a little too early for us to get married. I mean we just met." Josh said sarcastically.
"Don't worry, you'll have a shot at me in the future." Cecile smiled, "then, we will no longer be student and master, but husband and his little wife."
"I'll look forward to that." Josh grinned, putting on the ring.
[Mana regeneration ring(legendary grade): increases mana regeneration by 10/second]
Josh received a notification informing him that the ring was a mana regeneration ring of legendary rank.
"That is a mana regeneration ring, I'm borrowing you, to help regain your lost mana while you train," Cecile informed.
"Thank you," Josh said, appreciating her help greatly.
How could he not? From his knowledge of light novels, a treasure at legendary grade was nothing simple.
"Just get to work."
