"You're the third reincarnator, aren't you?"
Jeanne's question went unanswered.
Eric looked toward Edward.
So did John.
Neither seemed to realize how much that simple reaction revealed until Jeanne followed their gazes. By then, there was little point in pretending she had arrived at the conclusion without reason.
Edward regarded her in silence for another moment.
"Reincarnator?" he said at last. "I don't know what you're talking about."
John grimaced.
Eric looked as though he wished Edward had chosen almost any other answer.
Jeanne noticed both reactions.
"Eric told me there were two other people like him," she said. "People who reincarnated into this world."
"Eric has been having a difficult time over Rubina. You shouldn't believe everything he says when he's delirious."
"Oi."
Edward ignored him.
Jeanne did not appear persuaded. Her attention remained on his face, moving briefly over features she had been trying to place since approaching.
"Are you from Earth?"
