"Gray? Do you have a son?" I ask as I try to piece together the unexpected puzzle that was thrown at me.
"Yes, I do. How did you know?" He asks softly.
"Gene has been my personal attendant since I came to live at the castle. " I admit.
"Your personal attendant? Not King Lao's?" Gerald asks, confusion lacing his words.
"No. Why? Was Gene supposed to be King Lao's personal attendant?" I shuffle my feet as I begin to pace back and forth slowly.
"Yes. After I retired, he should have taken over. It's been that way for generations. It's a family inheritance of sorts. I wonder what happened?" Gerald ponders.
"I'm not sure. I don't know what he was doing before he was appointed to be my personal attendant, but as soon as I set foot in the castle, Gene has been looking after me. King Lao had him spy on me as well. Maybe that's why. He just needed Gene for a more important task." I suggest, as I feel the need to explain the deviation.
