Ivan's POV
I was feeling very happy today. I woke up and for the first time in a month I felt a sense of relief. My plan was to drop Amara at school and officially ask her to be my girlfriend. I quickly freshened up and wore my favorite shirt. It was a black t shirt with a wolf head printed on it . I kept on smiling as I looked at myself in the mirror , it was as if all my dreams were finally coming true. I have an interview at NYC and I've managed to cut all ties with Chloe. I grabbed my car keys and headed out. I parked in front of her house and checked my watch making sure I was there on time. I rung the doorbell and Cindy came out .
"Ivan!" She greeted with a warm smile. Cindy was fond of me and I also adored her.
"Good morning Cindy, is Amara at home?" I asked.
"Yeah she is getting ready for school , is there any problem?" She asked
"Actually I wanted to drop her off at school " I replied
"That's so sweet of you and thanks for yesterday… I appreciate your effort "
"You don't have to thank me …"
"Oh my … I'm really sorry please come in!" Cindy said and led me to the living room.
"Did you have breakfast already?" She asked
"I didn't "
"That's nice! Join us for breakfast! Amara!" She said and called out for her .
"Amara baby!!!" Cindy called out but there was no response.
"Are you sure she's in here?" I asked remembering her windows were still locked when I was leaving my room and that was so not like her.
"I'm pretty sure " she replied worriedly and a little boy came, descending the stairs.
"Did I wake you up sweetheart!" Cindy picked him up . He nodded and she kissed him on the cheek.
"Can you check up on Amara for me Ivan … I need to brush his teeth " Cindy asked and I nodded. I climbed the stairs and went straight to her door. I knocked on it but there was no response. I turned the knob and it immediately opened.
"Are you in here Amara?" I asked, stretching my neck.
"Amara?" I said and took the blanket of her. The sight of her made me panic. She was shaking and sweating.
"Are you okay?" I asked worriedly and sat on the edge of the bed. I felt her body with the back of my palm and she was burning hot.
"You have a fever !" I exclaimed and placed the blanket around her. She rolled her eyes at me and muttered something underneath her breath. She tried to sit upright but was too weak to move.
"Please don't move … I'm coming!" I said and rushed to her bathroom. I fetched cold water in a little basin and took one of her small towels.
"This will help reduce your temperature " I said as I applied the wet towel on her forehead.
"Can you turn off the AC please I feel cold " she said and I quickly turned it off.
"Since when have you been like this and why did you not tell your mom?" I asked after her temperature had gone down a little bit.
"It's none of your business Ivan and what are you even doing here" she said as she coughed.
"This is bad Amara , you need to see a doctor!"
"I'm fine please and don't tell my mom !"
"What should he not tell me!" Cindy interrupted, carrying Jared in his arms.
"Are you okay Amara?" She asked even before I could answer, her facial expression full of concern.
"Are you sick !" She exclaimed worriedly, after feeling her temperature.
"I'm fine mom just a slight fever!" She said trying to sit up again.
"Be careful!" I said and held her.
"This is not a slight fever Amara! you look weak! Ivan please help me take her to the hospital!" Cindy said.
"Can you do anything for once without asking for his help!" Amara exclaimed angrily even though her voice was weak.
"What do you mean?"
"I meant what I said mom! I'm in this mess mainly because of this guy and you always find every means to bring him closer to me ! Do you know the pain I go through anytime I'm with him!" She cried and Cindy was speechless.
"What is she talking about Ivan?" Cindy asked worriedly.
"I'm sorry Cindy but this isn't the right time for discussions … Amara is truly upset with me but right now we need to get her to the hospital " I said and she nodded, dropping Jared on the bed.
"Are you really sick Amara ?" Jared asked as she hugged her.
"No dear your sissy is really strong " she replied and I wondered since when did she become a big sis. I carried her in my arms into my car, Cindy sat next to her at the back and Jared sat with me at the front. We arrived at the hospital and she was soon attended to . A drip was placed on her and she was admitted in a ward .
"Are you her boyfriend?" The doctor asked smiling.
"Yes please !" I replied and Cindy turned to look at me.
"What's wrong with her doctor?" Cindy asked , anxiously waiting for him to talk.
"Amara is fine… no need to worry, she was actually dehydrated and there was a fever too but you managed to bring her temperature down so she's stable for now " the doctor said and I sighed in relief.
"So will she be discharged today?" Cindy asked.
"Actually she needs closer observation for the next 24 hours and we are actually running some tests on her so I don't think she can join you home today… you can go home with this cutie for now and her boyfriend can stay with her if you don't mind " the doctor said and Cindy looked at me.
"There's no need for him to stay , I will stay with her " she replied
"Don't worry Cindy, I can take care of her please go home and get some rest !"
"Are you sure Ivan ?" She asked
"I'm very sure " I smiled.
"Thank you !" She replied and went to see her at the ward. They talked for a while and she told me she was leaving. I got an Uber for her and came back to check up on her.
"What are you still doing here Ivan?" She said sitting on the bed well.
"Well I happened to be the one taking care of you" I smiled, sitting on the chair beside the bed.
"This is a hospital and there are qualified professionals to take care of me! I don't need you here please!"
"Until when will you continue to hide your feelings from me…"
"What do you mean?" She asked nervously.
"A few minutes ago , you were telling your mom I'm the cause of your present condition… do I have this much effect on you " I got up and moved closer to her.
"That was because seeing you made me worse" she replied.
"I hope that changes cause you will be seeing me more often " I smiled.
"Whatever!" She rolled her eyes and took her phone.
"Would you like something to eat ?" I asked.
"I'm fine!" She replied
"You need to take these meds in an hour time and I know you've not eaten "
"Fine! Stop lecturing me and help me get down please!" She said and I went to help her. She held onto me tightly as if she feared she was going to fall.
"Are you sure you can walk?" I asked seeing how she was finding it difficult to move her legs down.
"I don't know Ivan but my legs feel numb and weak all of a sudden!" She said with a tint of fear and worry in her eyes.
"It's because you've laid down for long … trust me, apply more effort and move your leg!" I said trying to hide my anxiety. She tried but she stumbled and I happened to catch her on time before she could fall.
"What's happening to me Ivan!" She cried out.
"Calm down Amara… here sit … try breathing in and out please… good … in … out … yeah! " I said calming her down.
"I can't feel my legs Ivan … I'm I paralyzed?"
"Don't say! … I will get the doctor …please don't try to move " I said and she nodded obediently. "What the fuck was happening to her!" I thought as I headed to the nurses station.
