The peculiar thing about the supernatural power in this world is that it defies logic and cannot be contemplated with any normal reasoning.
Normally, the role of the protection ritual should be like that of Geralt, forming a shield to block attacks. However, here the ritual's role turns out to be transferring damage.
The weapons of the Fishmen landed on the monks but had no effect, whereas the Candlelight Priest beside them inexplicably suffered severe damage, directly affecting him as though his armor hadn't worked at all.
Logically, the ritual should indeed block the damage, but it brings backlash, meaning the damage appeared on the Priest.
Luckily, the damage was weakened by the ritual, and the Priest silently endured it, evidently accustomed to it.
