From what they were able to deduce, two light-haired men lived in the old palace. And no one else was currently living there.
The building was large and lonely. None of the neighbors would even hear if anything happened inside. There's not even a way for them to react.
The third man lived in a different location. His house admittedly stood on the edge of the village, but at least three people lived there. There was a dog in the yard, which with its barking could alert the neighbors.

balaclavas made their way into the palace grounds. Like shadows, they ran across the lawn and began looking at windows and doors.
One of them noticed that there was an open window on the first floor. He let his comrades know and climbed up the wall, taking advantage of the decorative window trim. After a few minutes, he opened the front door and let his companions inside.
