Chapter 11 - Chapter 11

I was running at full speed through the woods, carefully watching where I was going to not trip and slow myself down.

I still somehow slipped, though, luckily, it was close to the area where I felt those emotions.

I could even identify the acid fog that was, slowly but surely, killing any animals unlucky enough to find themselves in that killing device's path.

"It burns!"

"Help!"

"Somebody, help us!"

"Aahhh!"

I could hear masculine and feminine voices coming from inside the deadly gas.

I quickly, rushed inside the mist instantly feeling a surge of pain.

The burns I incurred quickly recovered.

It somewhat reminded me of my death when I was burned alive.

I couldn't bring myself to open my eyes and look for them that way knowing that not only they would be burned, but I would also only see a yellowish haze.

It was the same for all other senses except the emotions sensing power

I could only rely on it to find the victims of this fog.

So I concentrated despite the pain and quickly searched for despair, sorrow and suffering.

There they are.

Moving quickly in that direction, I managed to pick up two people, although I had no means of making sure if they were the two teens that I was currently attempting to save.

Hoping for the best, I exited the mist and quickly brought them to a safe area.

They had just recently entered the fog and I had managed to take them out rather quickly afterwards which, fortunately for them, resulted in them having 'minor' burns and small bleeding at various points of their body.

"Are you guys okay?" I asked them.

"Yeah, thanks dude- Ow!," Pascal hissed in pain.

"Hey, calm down. While those burns might hurt a lot-" I tried to advise him.

"You think?!" Trina said sarcastically.

"I just saved your lives by going in that fog, I'm pretty sure I know how much it hurts," I told them.

"I don't see any damage on your body, though," the ungrateful girl remarked.

"Well, I guess I'll just have to leave you here to die then. See you around when you're more grateful," I declared before turning around and acting like I was leaving to bait them into apologizing.

"No no no, please we're sorry! Please don't leave us here!" After hearing that I turned around.

"Look, I'm sorry for Trina's attitude. It's just that she almost died and she still isn't over it yet, you understand that right," Pascal justified.

I like this man, defending his girl is without a doubt a good quality.

"You do have a point, I guess. You know what, I'll let it go this time considering this is the only period where she's been impolite and because of what you've both been through, but hear me out. If you or your girlfriend disrespect me like that again, especially knowing that I risked my life to save you guys, I will go back and leave you in that yellow fog to die and see if you like it any better there," I threatened.

"Alright, thanks dude," he accepted.

After hearing that, I picked them both up and put them on my shoulders to take them to the river.

My endeavour for their appeasement took some time, although no effort.

During my long walk towards the river, I talked with both of the delinquents and asked why they didn't stay in camp and how they got lost.

They were a little embarrassed to confide in me, which already raised a bunch of red flags in my head, but they did so nonetheless.

It turns out that they wanted some time alone to chat or have sex and just obtain a little privacy in general but got lost when, after trying to reconnect with the drop ship, they failed to hear a single noise or find their way back.

After arriving at the river, I let the two have their privacy while they relieved the pain caused by their injuries.

Meanwhile, I decided to take advantage of the fact that I was already here and looked for some of the red seaweed that the trio of Wells Clarke and Finn went to retrieve for Jasper's survival.

If I remembered correctly, it turned the surrounding body of water reddish-brown which should make it easier to find.

During the day that is, but it was currently nighttime with the only source of light being the phosphorescent flora of the forest.

I walked along the water and saw something that seemed to be seaweed.

It was made of a pure shade of crimson which was exactly what I was looking for.

Taking my shirt and using it as a bag once more, I went into the water with caution, concentrating on my powers to feel emotions or malicious intent.

Just in case there were any more aquatic predators.

I finally took hold of it, put the seaweed inside my makeshift pouch and then attached it to my unclothed upper body.

It was time to take the two others back to the exodus ship now.
