Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: Unveiling Shadows

As Alex, Vincenzo, and the adult Hayato navigated the quiet, shadow-draped access tunnels toward the hidden base, the air around them suddenly surged with a sharp, static hum. Space itself twisted in a flash of pink-tinged flame, and in a heartbeat, the tall, seasoned adult Hayato vanished into thin air.

In his place stood the younger Hayato—dressed in his familiar school uniform, clutching his sidearms, and looking thoroughly disoriented as he nearly tripped over his own boots on the cold steel floor.

"What the hell?!" young Hayato yelled, scrambling into a defensive stance and wildly aiming his pistols in every direction. "Where am I?! Boss? Vincenzo? Why are we in some sci-fi subway tunnel—and why were you two suddenly missing from the street?!"

Vincenzo let out a long breath, a sudden realization dawning on him. "The five-minute temporal exchange rule... When the past version is pulled forward, the future counterpart gets swapped back to the past until the displacement settles."

Alex placed a reassuring hand on young Hayato's shoulder. "Relax, Hayato. You're safe, but we've got a serious situation. We've been displaced ten years into the future."

"Ten years?!" Hayato repeated, his jaw practically hitting the steel floor as he looked at the high-tech terminal around them. "Wait—so that adult guy in the suit with the scar... that was me?!"

As they resumed their march toward the coordinates, Hayato quickly processed the surreal jump, adjusting his coat as his sharp mind kicked into gear.

"If we're in a future overrun by a familia," Hayato said, his tone turning serious, "it matches the intelligence briefs I was reading back in our timeline. The elite strike force enforcing the Vespera Familia's reign in this territory goes by the unit name Umbra Syndicate—a cold, covert division known for ruthless underground assassinations and high-level extortion."

Alex's hands clenched into tight fists at his sides. "They're the ones who hunted down the family in this timeline. We're not going to let them control this era any longer."

"No shadow thrives once you drag it into the light," Vincenzo agreed, his eyes narrowing. "We locate the surviving guardians, compile their data, and strike back."

Minutes later, the end of the tunnel opened into a massive, heavily fortified subterranean bunker. The Luciano Resistance Base hummed with quiet, tense energy—officers tracking communication frequencies, tactical engineers repairing flame-tech armor, and resistance fighters preparing supplies.

When the young 10th Boss stepped onto the command balcony alongside Vincenzo and young Hayato, a breathless hush swept over the entire main floor. To the survivors of this dark future, seeing their young boss standing alive before them was nothing short of a miracle.

Over the days that followed, the hidden sanctuary became an intensive war room and training ground.

While the future timeline's senior tactical staff provided intelligence on the Umbra Syndicate's patrol routes and heavily fortified strongholds, the older, surviving guardians—who slowly trickled into the base—began passing down advanced future combat techniques to young Alex, Hayato, and Vincenzo. In return, Alex's unwavering, pure Sky flame restored hope to a resistance unit that had spent a decade fighting in the dark.

Day by day, young Hayato honed his Storm flame output, learning to master high-density projectile bursts, while Alex drilled his footwork to handle the brutal, high-tech weaponry used by future enforcers.

Standing before the master tactical map on the eve of their counter-offensive, Alex looked out at his gathering strike force. The names of their enemies were known, their strategies mapped, and their resolve absolute. The battle to reclaim the future from the Vespera Familia was about to begin.
