Chapter 30 - Chapter 30:A Day To Remember

Graduation day arrived with a sense of finality that hung in the air. It was the culmination of years of hard work, but for Logan and his team, it was also a day filled with bittersweet moments. The future was uncertain, the world outside the academy walls was filled with chaos, and yet, they had survived together, formed bonds that transcended the walls of their training facility, and made it through the trials of the wilderness program.

However, today wasn't just about the impending future—it was about celebrating what they had achieved. It was Matthew's birthday, a day that most people would have forgotten in the middle of the chaos, but his teammates had other plans.

---

The ceremony began as expected, with professors handing out diplomas and students congratulating each other on their achievements. But there was an underlying excitement bubbling beneath the surface, and it wasn't because of the graduation itself.

As the ceremony drew to a close, Logan and the others made their move. They had been planning for weeks, and today, they were going to surprise Matthew.

---

"Hey, Matthew," William said casually, his tone deceptively calm. "You're not going to believe this, but I managed to get you that energy source you've been eyeing for months. It's compact, durable, and I know you've been low on funds lately. Figured you could use it."

Matthew blinked, completely taken aback. "What? No way..."

William grinned. "Yeah, I know you didn't want to ask your dad for the money, but I thought this might help with your projects."

Matthew stared at the gift, his heart swelling with gratitude. He'd never expected something like this. He opened the compact energy source, looking at it in awe. It was perfect—everything he needed to continue his work.

"Thank you," Matthew said, his voice cracking slightly. He turned away quickly to hide the emotion creeping up on him.

---

Next was Jessica. "I got you something too," she said, handing him a sleek, limited-edition tech wristwatch. It had an array of features designed for someone like Matthew—helpful for tracking his abilities and syncing up with his tech.

Matthew looked at the wristwatch, his eyes wide with surprise. "This is... wow, Jessica, you really didn't have to..."

Before he could finish, Jessica winked at him. "You're family now, Matthew. Just think of it as a little something to keep you on track with all your gadgets."

Without thinking, Matthew leaned forward and wrapped his arms around her in a tight hug, lifting her slightly off the ground. In the middle of the hug, he planted a quick peck on her cheek, causing a mix of surprised laughter and teasing from the others. Jessica was momentarily flustered but couldn't help smiling.

"You really are a handful," she said with a laugh, pushing him playfully away.

---

Then it was Logan's turn. "Well," Logan began, smirking, "I don't know about the rest of them, but I know what you really need. Something practical."

Matthew raised an eyebrow. "Practical? You didn't get me a toolset, did you?"

Logan's grin widened as he pulled out a set of keys from his jacket pocket and tossed them to Matthew. "No, better. You're getting a 2021 Peugeot E-Boxer Van. I figured you could use it as a mobile workshop. I've heard you complaining that you need your own space for your tech—especially the stuff your dad doesn't know about."

Matthew stood there, stunned, staring at the keys in his hand. "Wait... what?"

Logan chuckled at his friend's disbelief. "Yeah, I heard you loud and clear when you were talking about how you couldn't stand working in your dad's garage. The van's yours. It's the perfect place for you to work without anyone breathing down your neck."

Matthew didn't know what to say. He opened his mouth, then closed it again, overwhelmed by the gesture. The words didn't come easily. "I—Logan, I... don't even know how to thank you. This is more than I could've ever asked for."

Logan shrugged, though his eyes betrayed a hint of affection. "You were an asshole when we first met, but over the last few months, I've come to know you, and I realized you're one of the best friends I've ever had."

Matthew's emotions got the better of him. He hugged Logan tightly, his voice breaking as he spoke. "I never thought you'd be one of the best things that happened to me... especially after everything. I've never had someone like you. I can't believe this, man."

The whole room watched in stunned silence, some classmates glancing at each other with raised eyebrows. A few tried to make jabs at Matthew for crying, but he didn't care. All that mattered was the van.

"Yeah, whatever," Matthew muttered, wiping his eyes quickly. "I don't care. I've got a damn van!"

William laughed, giving Logan a nod of approval. "Well done, man. That's a hell of a gift."

Jessica smiled, watching the moment with genuine happiness for Matthew. "You deserve it, Matthew. You really do."

Even Amara, standing off to the side with Julian, was surprised. She couldn't quite believe it herself. Logan, the loner with a sharp edge, doing something like this for a friend? It was a side of him she hadn't seen before.

As Logan and the team continued to celebrate, Matthew stood there, still in shock. His teammates had made his day unforgettable. He had no idea that, despite all the animosity and distance that had existed between them, these were the people who truly cared about him. And for that, he was eternally grateful.

The gifts were just things, but the gesture—this moment—was something he would never forget. It was a sign of the bond they had formed, a reminder that even in the darkest times, there was still room for light. And for Logan, it was a sign that maybe, just maybe, his team could be more than just allies—they were family.

As they all gathered together, Matthew couldn't help but smile through his tears. Whatever came next, he knew he wasn't facing it alone.

---

Matthew couldn't wipe the smile off his face as he drove his new Peugeot E-Boxer Van around the academy grounds. The hum of the electric engine was soothing, a perfect contrast to the storm of emotions swirling inside him. He was finally free from his dad's shadow, finally in control of his own future. And this van? This van was his freedom.

As he cruised past the rows of students who were still buzzing from the graduation ceremony, he couldn't help but notice the surprised and envious glances directed at him. Some stared in awe, while others whispered to each other, no doubt wondering how the hell Matthew, the tech genius with a chip on his shoulder, managed to pull off something like this. It wasn't just the van—it was the entire package. Matthew's transformation from the loner to the guy who had a solid group of friends, people who cared for him, seemed almost unreal.

In the backseat, Jessica and William joked with each other, enjoying the ride as the van became the center of attention. Logan's team had always been known for their skills and their unique bond, but now they were making a statement. They were not just survivors; they were a family in the making. And for Matthew, this was a turning point.

---

Meanwhile, in the professor's office, Principal Mason was discussing the events of the past few days with the teaching staff. The mood had shifted since graduation. The academic focus was momentarily set aside, replaced by a more serious tone due to the rising threats from the outside world. But that didn't stop Mason from taking a moment to reflect on what he'd just witnessed.

He watched the scene unfold through the window, seeing Logan's team having a blast in the van, their laughter carrying over the gentle hum of the engine. Matthew was behind the wheel, still getting the feel of his new ride. Logan, Jessica, and William sat beside him, their camaraderie apparent.

Mason couldn't help but smile, his eyes narrowing with pride. "Logan Holt," he muttered to the professors who stood around him. "That kid... he's something else. The kind of friend everyone needs. Loyal, dependable, and a damn good leader."

The professors exchanged glances, some of them nodding in agreement. They had all seen it—Logan's bond with his teammates, his ability to unite them in ways that few could manage. It wasn't just about being strong or capable. It was about heart. And Logan had plenty of that.

---

Just as Mason finished speaking, the hum of an engine reached his ears. The sound of something more luxurious, more powerful. A sleek, Grey Stingray pulled up into the academy lot, drawing everyone's attention. The car was unmistakable, and it was no surprise when the door opened to reveal Elsa, stepping out in a stunning dress, her smile as radiant as ever.

Logan, who had been sitting in the van, saw her immediately. His heart skipped a beat. Elsa had that effect on him, even after everything they'd been through. She was a constant in his life, and the fact that she was here, at this moment, made it all feel right.

Elsa stepped toward him, her eyes locking with his. "Congratulations, Logan," she said, her voice soft but filled with pride. "You did it. You and your team. You've made it."

Logan didn't hesitate. He reached out, pulling her into a tight embrace. "We did it. Together."

As they pulled apart, Elsa glanced down at the ground next to Logan, and her face softened. "And I brought someone too," she added, almost mischievously.

From behind her, a familiar, sleek black shape appeared, and Logan couldn't help but laugh. Midnight, his loyal steppe eagle, flapped its wings eagerly as it saw him, soaring straight into his arms. The eagle had missed him, and Logan could tell.

"I see you're still attached to me, huh?" Logan chuckled, holding Midnight close. The bird nuzzled against him affectionately, and for a moment, it was just the two of them—Logan and his loyal companion—surrounded by his friends.

Elsa smiled, her eyes warm. "He's a bit of a jealous one, huh?"

Logan glanced up at her, his smile widening. "Yeah, but I wouldn't have it any other way."

As Logan introduced Elsa to his teammates, William, Matthew, and Jessica gave their greetings, each one smiling at her. Midnight, however, wasn't quite sure about Elsa yet, still keeping a little distance from her, as if assessing whether or not he could trust her fully. But the team was used to Midnight's quirks by now. They laughed it off and continued to chat, their spirits high.

It was a moment of joy, of calm before the storm that was sure to come. The world outside was growing darker, but in this moment, they had each other. And that, for now, was enough.

---

As the day continued, the news broadcasted new reports—specifically highlighting Ciudad Juárez and the growing threats near the border. The Bureau of Justice was preparing, the military was mobilizing, and the students, including Logan's team, were quietly being trained for what was coming. But for a brief moment, they didn't think about the impending war. They didn't think about the aliens or the enemies that were closing in.

Instead, they focused on each other, their victories, and the friendships that would carry them through whatever came next.
