"When's that bastard going to call me?!" A man stopped tapping his toes with a raging stomp.
His phone was hurled through a doorway and onto the bed. It bounced into the headboard with a thud, nearly clattering to the floor.
He rubbed both hands through his short, messy hair. Looking at the mirror in front of him left his chest aching. For a few moments, he didn't feel like it was him in the reflection.
"Veik… what the hell did you do wrong? We were so close, and you fucked it all up. Again!"
Vael rubbed his green eyes with a forlorn groan.
"How could you let that knave set you up like this? How could you not prevent such a catastrophe?"
No matter how he spun it, Vael failed to imagine the scenario that had become reality.
Doo, doo, doop…
Once the phone started to ring, Vael forced a big breath into his lungs. Then, he slowly exhaled. One step at a time. Till he was beside the bed with the phone in hand.
