One of the useless idiots spat out at Xander while snatching the assault rifle and spare ammunition from his hands. Xander, his face sickly white and barely able to stand, let out a weak scoff as he collapsed to his knees.

His head was swimming, completely unable to form a coherent sentence never-mind aim his own guns. Making all of those guns had completely taken it out of them, and then there was the ammunition he had to craft out of the dregs of iron left in his body.
His body had adapted over his evolution to both withstand the over production and lack of iron in his blood. But just because he could survive it didn't mean he wouldn't still feel like complete and utter shit afterwards.
