…..
..
Tsunade pushed aside the cloth covering the entrance and stepped out of the tent without stopping. Shiro followed behind her with that same unsettling calm she always carried, as though she weren't walking through the ruins of a destroyed village, but strolling through a private garden.
Outside, the air smelled of dust, smoke, and splintered wood.
Konoha was still standing.
Barely.
Many buildings had been reduced to rubble. Several streets remained partially blocked by fallen beams, shattered stone, and collapsed rooftops. Shinobi patrolled among the ruins, medics carried the wounded from one place to another, and civilians desperately tried to salvage whatever the attack had left behind.
The sound of hammers, hurried orders, and muffled groans blended together with the heavy silence that only came after a tragedy.
The village wasn't breathing peace.
It was breathing survival.
Tsunade walked with a hardened expression, never breaking her stride. Everywhere she looked, she saw the consequences of the disaster: houses torn open like paper dolls, dark stains across the ground, makeshift stretchers, blood-soaked bandages, and exhausted faces.
And yet, none of it weighed on her as heavily as the presence walking behind her.
Shiro observed the devastation with calm, almost elegant interest. Her golden eyes swept across the remains of Konoha as though she were inspecting an unfinished work of art.
—Well… —she murmured—. So this is what was left after Akatsuki's little game.
Tsunade continued walking.
—Don't say that name so casually.
Shiro smiled.
—Casually? I'd say I'm being considerate.
Tsunade's jaw tightened at the response. She said nothing. It wasn't worth it. Ever since Shiro had appeared, every word she spoke seemed deliberately designed to irritate her, pressure her, or remind her just how powerless she was against her.
A group of shinobi passed by carrying a severely wounded man on a stretcher. One of them bowed slightly upon seeing Tsunade.
—Hokage-sama.
Tsunade answered with a brief nod, but the shinobi could barely hold her gaze. His eyes shifted toward Shiro, and the color drained from his face.
He said nothing else.
He simply continued on his way.
Shiro watched him leave.
—Your people feel some interesting things —she said—. Fear, exhaustion… and a rage so deep they can barely contain it.
—They've lost too much —Tsunade replied coldly.
—Everyone loses something sooner or later.
—You speak as though that means nothing.
Shiro glanced at her.
—That depends on who's losing.
The emptiness in that answer sent a chill through even Tsunade.
They continued through the ruins, dust, and remnants of a battle that still felt painfully recent. Jutsu scars covered broken walls, trees had been ripped from their roots, and deep trenches had been carved into the earth by brutal impacts.
Konoha was still functioning.
But only through sheer force of will, its teeth clenched against the pain.
It was a village that refused to fall.
And for that very reason, seeing Shiro walking through its streets was unbearable.
She didn't belong there.
She was like a foreign shadow gliding through the remains of an open wound.
—Your village is stubborn —Shiro suddenly remarked.
—That's what keeps it alive.
—No. What keeps it alive is that its enemies haven't decided to destroy it completely.
Tsunade stopped for a moment.
She turned her head just enough to look at her.
—Don't mistake patience for absolute power.
Shiro stopped as well.
For a brief moment, the air seemed to harden.
There was no explosion of chakra.
No violent movement.
It was something worse.
An invisible pressure.
An overwhelming presence that descended upon the area, as though the entire sky had leaned just a little closer to the earth.
The rubble didn't move.
But Tsunade felt every muscle in her body tense.
—Tsunade —Shiro said, her soft voice carrying nothing remotely human—, it would be wise not to try measuring something you cannot possibly comprehend.
The silence that followed was brief, yet suffocating.
Then, just as quickly as it had appeared, the pressure vanished.
Shiro resumed walking as though nothing had happened.
—Come —she said with chilling calm—. I don't want to waste any more time.
Tsunade followed her, this time without answering.
In the distance, the hospital building emerged between damaged structures and cordoned-off areas. It had also suffered from the attack. One of its side walls remained cracked, several windows were shattered, and part of the temporary roof had been reinforced with new beams.
Even so, the hospital continued operating at full capacity.
Doctors and assistants constantly crossed the entrance, some covered in fresh bandages, others with bloodstains on their clothes.
It was one of the few places that couldn't afford to stop.
Not while the village was still bleeding.
—Naruto is in there —Tsunade said, never lowering her guard—. Kakashi should still be in the building as well.
—Should… —Shiro repeated with a faint smile—. Such an unstable word.
They climbed the steps toward the entrance.
The two shinobi guarding the doors immediately straightened when they saw the Hokage, but their reactions changed the moment their eyes landed on Shiro.
The younger one instinctively took a step backward.
The other tried to remain composed, although the bead of sweat running down his temple betrayed him.
—Hokage-sama… —one of them said—. This person…?
—She's with me —Tsunade cut him off before he could finish—. No one interferes. No one provokes her. And no one enters the top floor without my permission.
The two shinobi exchanged glances.
—Yes, Hokage-sama.
Shiro walked between them with an almost friendly smile, but neither dared to breathe until she had crossed the threshold.
The inside of the hospital was worse than it had appeared from the outside.
Patients occupied even the hallways. Makeshift partitions had been set up everywhere, bandages were stacked inside open crates, and the constant echo of hurried footsteps filled the building.
Exhaustion was written across every face.
Some of the doctors could barely remain standing.
Tsunade continued forward without stopping, but she immediately noticed something strange.
The atmosphere had changed.
Not because of Shiro.
Because of something else.
A sudden tension spread across the floor like a silent current. Two nurses rushed out of a room with troubled expressions. A medical Chunin ran up the stairs without even noticing who was in his path.
Then, from somewhere on the upper floor, came the sharp sound of something slamming against a wall.
Tsunade stopped.
—What was that?
No one answered.
Then it happened again.
This time, much louder.
A burst of chakra tore through the hospital like a violent shockwave. Several lights trembled. The floor shook for a brief instant.
Far away, a muffled scream was followed by the sound of shattering glass.
Everyone froze.
Tsunade immediately looked toward the top floor.
That direction.
Naruto.
Kakashi.
Shiro, however, didn't move.
Her golden eyes narrowed with a dark, almost hungry gleam as she stared at the ceiling, as though she could see straight through it.
And then she smiled.
But this time, it wasn't a playful or mocking smile.
It was the smile of someone who had just recognized a long-awaited signal.
—It's begun… —she whispered.
Tsunade turned toward her.
—What the hell does that mean?
Shiro didn't answer.
She simply took a step forward.
Slow.
Elegant.
Terrifying.
Another explosion shook the upper floor.
This time, it was accompanied by a voice.
A man's voice.
Hoarse.
Pain-filled.
Furious.
And completely out of control.
Tsunade's eyes widened.
She recognized that voice.
—Naruto… —she whispered.
Without wasting another second, she shot toward the stairs.
Behind her, Shiro advanced without the slightest hurry, carrying herself with the serenity of a dark goddess stepping onto a stage that already belonged to her.
And at the top of the hospital, something was about to break.
Not just a wall.
Not just a room.
Something far worse.
Something that could completely change the course of that night.
