Chapter 739 - Light Ball

"At present, the different types of offensive moves that Gallade has mastered include Slash, Brick Break, Leaf Blade, Aerial Ace, Fury Cutter, Night Slash, Psycho Cut, Thunder Punch, Ice Punch, and Fire Punch, corresponding respectively to the Normal Type, Fighting Type, Grass Type, Flying Type, Bug Type, Dark Type, Psychic Type, Electric Type, Ice Type, and Fire Type…"

In the laboratory, as Terrance considered the next direction of Gallade's type training, he began to feel troubled.

Through these ten moves, Gallade had successfully harnessed ten different types of slashes, elevating its swordsmanship to the peak.

However, this was not the limit.

Wide Guard is a Rock-type defensive move, not an offensive one. If Gallade trains in it, it could be developed into a "swordsmanship parrying technique." Since ancient times, whether using swords or blades, combat has always relied on parrying skills. Mastering this as a sword-and-shield technique might help compensate for some of Gallade's defensive shortcomings.

For Gallade, learning Wide Guard would not be difficult. Although Terrance's Gallade was somewhat special, ever since it had mastered Mega Evolution, Gallade had done an excellent job of exploring its own potential. In terms of learning moves, thanks to the repeated breakthroughs in its life level, it was no weaker than others of its kind… so Terrance didn't need to worry about that.

Terrance pondered for a moment. From once knowing only Teleport to now mastering so many slashing moves, this was undoubtedly inseparable from Gallade's repeated evolutions in life level.

Having evolved twice and mega-evolved once, such an elevation in life level was not something every Pokémon could experience.

The latent potential hidden within its body had been completely awakened.

"Stone Edge is another move it can learn. It fits perfectly with the Wide Guard training. Unlike Wide Guard, perhaps Gallade could try altering its attack style, performing Stone Edge in the form of a slash. With that, the Rock-type offense and defense would both be set, giving Gallade a rough direction for its 11th type training." Terrance nodded, jotting down the rough plan in his notes, intending to refine and adjust it later based on the results and any issues that arose during training.

"The 12th type is also quite clear. Dual Chop, a Dragon-type move that Gallade can also learn. Whether it's Stone Edge or Dual Chop, once the Rotom Pokédex arrives, I'll be able to guide Gallade's training with our current resources. However…"

Terrance's pen suddenly paused. His idea for the 13th type: the Poison type, specifically Poison Jab.

This move might be a bit troublesome for Gallade to learn.

Mastering Poison Jab would require substantial external assistance to grant Gallade the ability to control poison.

"I'll have to look into acquiring the necessary materials soon, but it would be best to start early. Also, I could purchase some materials to aid in mastering Stone Edge and Dual Chop. The training efficiency would improve greatly then." That was Terrance's current plan.

With the addition of the Rock, Dragon, and Poison type, Terrance had already planned thirteen different types of slashing moves for Gallade. Combined with its increasingly refined movement and slashing techniques, Gallade's foundation would grow ever richer, and its strength would become even greater.

As for the unmastered Water-type, Fairy-type, Ghost-type, and Ground-type slashing moves, Terrance chose to ignore them for now, particularly Water-type and Fairy-type, for which he simply could figure out how to enable Gallade to master attacks of these types.

As for Shadow energy and Earth power, mastering them is even more complicated, so Terrance plans to first have Gallade train in the three relatively easier-to-master types, leaving the other two for later. [TN: Don't know whether the author is talking about moves here or not.]

Two days later.

The Rotom Pokédex returned to Terrance's side, bringing with it that small bead filled with electricity.

"I've detected some changes in its weight compared to before, but the increase isn't significant. It's unclear what might have caused it, Roto."

As soon as it returned to Terrance, the Rotom Pokédex began examining Carbink's condition.

"Car~bink!"

Carbink responded immediately to Rotom's words.

Glancing at Terrance, Rotom Pokédex gave a brief "uhhh" and explained, "Carbink says it's probably not due to the Fairy Aura, but rather because its diet has improved since leaving the Geosenge Town mountain range. That should be the reason."

Terrance scratched his cheek and said, "Alright, this change isn't crucial anyway. We can't determine anything from it.…"

"However, through the energy detector, I've recorded changes in the total amount of Fairy energy inside Carbink over the past two days, and I discovered something interesting."

"What is it, Roto?" Rotom Pokédex asked.

"Although the portion of power Carbink can enhance with the Fairy energy converted by Fairy Aura is small, meaning its conversion efficiency is not as high as Kirlia and others. Through the instruments and Altaria's special perception, I have finally confirmed an important matter."

"Carbink actually absorbs a higher total amount of Fairy energy than Kirlia and the others," Terrance said.

In other words, it isn't that Carbink hadn't benefited from the Fairy Aura; rather, it gained even more than Kirlia and others, but this benefit hadn't converted into tangible strength yet, so it wasn't immediately noticeable.

Through these measurements, Terrance came to understand that his hypothesis had been correct: Fairy energy was subtly transforming Carbink's body. The energy wasn't inefficient, nor was it disappearing, it was simply that Carbink couldn't yet utilize it.

But sooner or later, quantitative change would lead to a qualitative change, triggering Carbink's body mutation.

"Diancie, huh…" The Rotom Pokédex, with its vast database, immediately understood what Terrance meant. In the next moment, it projected an image of Diancie in front of Carbink.

That elegant and noble demeanor instantly captivated Carbink.

"Diancie, its body gleaming with a pink radiance, is praised as the most beautiful Pokémon in the world. It possesses the power to compress carbon in the air between its hands and instantly create countless diamonds."

"Carbink, does that excite you?" Terrance looked at Carbink and smiled slightly as he saw the longing in its eyes.

"Perhaps one day, you'll evolve into Diancie yourself, achieving a miracle that only a handful of your kind have ever accomplished in countless years."

"Car~bink!"

Carbink nodded vigorously. Before, it had followed Terrance simply to become stronger, but now, its heart had been completely captured. The beauty of Diancie had enchanted it deeply. It longed for the evolution Terrance spoke of, the miracle that only a few Carbink had accomplished in countless years

At this moment, a new future unfolded before Carbink; it had never been so grateful to have met such an exceptional Trainer.

"Then you'd better work hard, but remember to strike a balance between training and rest."

Terrance said with a laugh, patting Carbink's head.

After finishing some tasks, Terrance left the laboratory to take a walk in the city. The laboratory had two courtyards. Terrance usually had his Pokémon train in the backyard. The front yard, which led to the exit, was planted with some unusual berry trees.

These had been planted by Researcher Nero.

Terrance didn't recognize any of the berry species; he guessed they were hybrid varieties. Although he didn't know the effects of these Berries, the fact that Nero had casually planted them in a public laboratory meant they probably weren't anything particularly rare. Just as Terrance passed through the front yard, glancing at the trees, Nero's hurried shout suddenly rang out.

"Researcher Terrance! Your Light Ball!! I've made a new discovery!!"
