Chapter 873 - Gardevoir vs Venusaur

Grayson's third Pokémon was Venusaur. After a moment's consideration, Terrance recalled Ninetales.

Including Pupitar, his quasi-main Pokemon, all ten of Terrance's main Pokémon had their Poké Balls switched with special Poké Balls.

For Trainers, when a Pokémon is injured or overly exhausted, they would first recall it into a Poké Ball before sending it to a Pokémon Center, because Pokémon can obtain better rest inside a Poké Ball.

This effect isn't very obvious with ordinary Poké Balls, but some high-grade ones can actually help restore a Pokémon's stamina and suppress the worsening of injuries, such as Great Balls and Ultra Balls.

Of course, even with an Ultra Ball, although stamina recovery is better than with a regular Poké Ball, it is still quite slow. However, something is better than nothing. Recalling an injured Pokémon into its Poké Ball can minimize the aggravation of its wounds and lay an important foundation for subsequent treatment.

Ninetales' Poké Ball had been crafted using seven materials related to the Ice type and four other special materials. Inside it, Ninetales was essentially placed in a weakened Snowy Weather environment. The combination of materials even simulated the effect of an ice body, allowing Ninetales to slowly recover stamina while inside the Poké Ball.

It could be said that the recovery effect of this special Poké Ball far surpassed that of an Ultra Ball.

Terrance had conducted experiments: an utterly exhausted Ninetales, without using any recovery medicine, could regain full stamina within just a few hours, provided it was not injured and not suffering from a Status Condition.

If it was injured or afflicted with a Status Condition, the recovery speed would be somewhat affected.

However, as Ninetales' stamina became more abundant, its recovery speed would gradually increase as well.

Altaria and Beautifly's Poké Balls had similar effects. Though the principles differed, they shared a common feature: they can quickly restore stamina, slow the worsening of injuries, and suppress the spread of Status Condition. In fact, for relatively mild Status Conditions, these 10 special Poké Balls of Terrance can directly eliminate their effects.

In fast-paced battles, this effect might seem negligible due to the short duration of combat. But accumulated over time, it was absolutely a major advantage.

That slight advantage might very well change the course of victory.

In fact, by coordinating with these special Poké Balls and constantly switching Pokémon, a variety of tactics could be developed.

"Go, Gardevoir!"

Terrance sent out his third Pokémon as well. Unlike Grayson, his first two Pokémon had not lost their ability to battle.

Facing this Gardevoir with its tyrannical psychic energy, Grayson had no intention of probing. He immediately ordered Venusaur to launch a powerful offensive. Venusaur's two thick Vine Whips shot forward with a thunderous force!

"Venusaur's Vine Whip is even more terrifying than Carnivine's!"

The combination of Growth and Vine Whip had reached an even more terrifying level in Venusaur's hands. The two thick vines whipped through the air in an instant, stirring invisible currents and producing sharp whistling sounds. In the face of such a ferocious assault, Gardevoir's Confusion lacked the strength to twist the direction of the Vine Whips. They pierced straight through Gardevoir's Confusion barrier and sent it flying.

"Sa—!"

Struck and flung away by the immense force, Gardevoir endured the pain and quickly used Confusion to halt itself in midair, stabilizing its body.

"Double Team!" Terrance shouted quickly. This Venusaur's strength was faintly showing signs of suppressing Gardevoir. This round was likely to become a hard-fought battle for them.

As Grayson's ace, this Venusaur would be considered an expert even among Elite Four–level combatants. Gardevoir, having only just stepped into the Elite Four level, immediately fell into a disadvantage.

Unlike Grayson, who had nurtured Venusaur for over a decade, Gardevoir had been under Terrance's training for less than two years. Although it had entered the Elite Four level in terms of strength, its accumulated foundation was still insufficient, and its powerful offensive options were somewhat limited.

This Venusaur was extremely strong. The power contained within its two thick Vine Whips was quite terrifying. Though Terrance and Gardevoir managed to dodge the attacks, they were never able to find a suitable opportunity to strike back.

After a while, Gardevoir, having lost coordination in its movements, was sent flying by another Vine Whip, causing its injuries to worsen further.

"Poison…" The moment Terrance noticed that brief pause in Gardevoir's evasion, he froze, recalling the very first hit Gardevoir had taken…

Was it then? Had the toxin seeped into Gardevoir's body through the Vine Whip?

"Use Healing Wish."

To slow the rate of exhaustion, Terrance had no choice but to give the command.

At that moment, Gardevoir's Double Team not only served as decoys but also released Heal Pulse to restore the original's stamina and alleviate its Status Condition. However, at the same time, the pressure on Gardevoir grew even heavier.

"With Gardevoir's abilities, it won't be hard to find a chance to turn the tide. Before that, it must withstand the opponent's fierce offensive…"

Under the flurry of Vine Whips filling the sky, Gardevoir was steadily pushed back. Yet both Gardevoir and Terrance's eyes were clear and calm, observing the trajectory of the attacks and continuously calculating—

If the endlessly dancing Vine Whips formed an airtight barrier, then what Gardevoir was doing now was searching for, or creating a crack in that barrier.

And using that crack as the center point to pierce through the spiked wall.

"There!"

Finally—

Through Telepathy with Gardevoir, Terrance found the breakthrough opportunity at the same time as it did.

"Use Psyshock!"

After precise calculations, amidst the rapid, chaotic dance of Vine Whips that combined offense and defense into one, Gardevoir found the flaw.

On the battlefield, the moment one Vine Whip shattered a clone, the psychic energy that formed the duplicate did not immediately disperse. Instead, it became a coordinate point for Gardevoir, allowing it to descend at incredible speed, just as the Vine Whip naturally swung toward the next decoy.

Gardevoir's Psyshock was unleashed at once, forming a blue beam that shot toward Venusaur from a sharp angle.

Around the blue beam, countless purple arcs of electricity crackled and coiled, displaying the power of the attack.

"That angle is a blind spot in the Vine Whip's coverage."

Grayson's eyes sharpened. At that moment, Venusaur's Vine Whips had no time to drastically change direction to disperse the Psyshock. In that instant, Venusaur made a special move.

In a flash, its Vine Whips suddenly exploded outward, spraying out countless streams of venom that swallowed the incoming Psyshock. On the field, light condensed into a single point. As the two moves annihilated each other, splashes of poison scattered across the battlefield, causing the ground to emit white smoke as it was corroded.

"Misty Terrain!" Terrance's instincts told him that the poison coating the ground would still threaten Gardevoir. Seizing the opportunity, he had Gardevoir generate layers of pink mist to purify the venom on the field, and with the aid of the mist, conceal its figure once more.
