Chapter 192 - CHAPTER 188: DISCOVERY

CHAPTER 188: DISCOVERY

Harry arrived in a jiffy, rushing up to their room without wasting a second. Diana was still awake, though clearly recovering.

He moved straight to her side, checking her pulse.

"Did you check her pulse like I told you to?" Harry asked, glancing at James.

"Yes, Harry," James replied immediately. "I checked hers and the babies'. We listened together. I could swear it was weak. That's why I called again, begging you to get here fast… I was scared we'd lose them."

Harry nodded silently, checking her pulse again. This time, it was steady. Strong. He brought out the fetal monitor and listened closely.

"They're fine," he announced after a moment. "The babies' heartbeats… they're strong."

James and Diana turned to each other, stunned.

"James," Harry began seriously, "this is why I told you to check their vitals before I arrived. The same thing happened that night in the car. They shouldn't have survived that accident but they did. And Diana… she shouldn't have made it either. But she did."

He paused, his tone deepening. "Then the fall from the staircase. Nicodemus said she hit the ground hard before blacking out. She bled heavily, James. By all logic, she shouldn't have survived. But again… she did."

He looked between them, then continued.

"Are we really going to keep calling all of these miracles… coincidence?"

James frowned. "What's your theory, Harry?"

Harry exhaled, his voice dropping. "I already shared it with Victor. He agrees. We can't say anything for sure yet, but James… this is why I wanted to draw Diana's blood for testing. And you refused."

"Harry…" James said, his patience thinning. "Just get to the point."

Harry hesitated. Then he said it.

"We think your children can't die. Not in the way we understand it. And they're in some way protecting their mother too."

James blinked. "So, Diana can't be hurt?"

"No," Harry corrected. "She can be hurt. That's already obvious. But when she's given a little time, she recovers and so do the children in her womb. It's like their bond reinforces her… like they heal together."

Diana looked up at him quietly. "So… we can't die?"

Harry gave a cautious smile. "That's a stretch. We're not saying you're immortal. We're just saying your body fights to survive. You heal… fast. Strong."

He turned to James again, expression grave. "This is as far as our theory can go for now. But if we really want answers, James, I need to draw her blood and run the proper tests."

James ran a hand through his hair. This day just kept getting more complicated, one blow after another. Diana turned to look at her husband, noticing how conflicted he looked, like his thoughts were tearing him apart.

She shifted her gaze to Harry.

"Harry, just draw the blood already. You know we have deeper issues than this," she said softly.

"Diana, what are you doing?" James asked, concerned.

"Making the decision you're finding difficult to make," she replied. "Besides, what can it hurt? It's just a drop of blood."

She turned back to Harry and gave him a nod. Without another word, Harry got to work, drawing her blood with the syringe he had come with. Once it was secured, he packed up and left, eager to pursue his theories, leaving James and Diana alone.

Diana sat up, turning fully to face her husband.

"Was everything online true?" she asked without beating around the bush.

James opened his mouth to answer, but she raised a hand.

"You know what, hubby? You don't have to respond to that," she said quickly. "I did say it doesn't matter whether it's true or not. I was actually coming to meet you with a solution."

She smiled at him gently, but James snapped.

"Diana, can you stop being so cool about this?" His voice rose, frustration bleeding through. "I'm mad. I'm angry. And the last thing I need is for you to act all saintly and calm like this doesn't hurt you. Like you're mocking me deep down."

Diana froze, speechless, staring at him like she didn't recognize the man in front of her. His words pierced deep, not because of the tone but the pain beneath it.

His insecurities had eaten so deep into him, he couldn't even see the truth when it was right in front of him. He couldn't believe that someone could love him for all that he was, and in spite of all he wasn't.

But Diana could. And she would again and again, until he believed it too.

When James saw she wasn't saying anything, he turned abruptly, ready to walk out but her hand found his waist, stopping him.

"Baby," her voice was soft but firm. "What did I tell you the last time? I told you... you have no idea how much I love you. If only you could open my heart and see it for yourself."

Her voice trembled slightly, but her grip on him didn't waver.

"Those words haven't changed, Treasure. Otherwise, I wouldn't have spent all this time begging forgiveness for what I did. I want to be here for you now, the way you were there for me… even when you were mad, broken, and betrayed. The only difference is, I'm not mad at you."

She took a step closer, her voice steady despite the emotions swimming in her chest. "I knew you had a life before I came into the picture. And the real devils are the ones who twist the truth and plaster it online like they own the narrative."

Still, he didn't move. His body remained rigid.

"Babe… please look at me," she said softly.

When he didn't, she gently reached for him, turning him around to face her. Her palms cupped his cheeks, forcing his gaze to meet hers.

"Look into my eyes, James," she whispered. "See the sincerity there. Let me help. Let go of the pride, my dear husband."

A flicker of emotion danced across James's face, a ghost of a smile and then he folded her into his arms without a word. His hold was fierce, almost desperate, and he buried his face in her hair, breathing her in like salvation.

"God, I've missed you so much," he murmured against her.

Diana's toes curled as she leaned deeper into his embrace. Her eyes stung, brimming with tears she didn't try to fight. She held him just as tightly, their hearts pounding in sync.

They stayed like that, wrapped in each other, cocooned in their world while outside, the world burned in chaos.
